Not so fun week-end

Actually the park was in Indiana.

I saw some wooded land for sale while driving around this weekend.  Made some inquiries today.  Perhaps buying and making my own private "park" would solve the problem, as I and any guests would be the only "campers" on over twenty acres. Can you still call it camping if it is a one-room primative cabin?

Well funny to hear others had issues this weekend too.

There were 3 in our group. Mom and dad in the 37

Wow, I can't believe what some of you have to put up with! We camped 4 nights at our local state park (North Carolina) this past weekend. And like our other NC state park experiences, the weekend was a QUIET one. All of the sites (151) were full. Yet there was no loud music, no loud people, etc., in our loop at least. Our closest neighbors had several kids, yet they were quiet, especially during quiet hours. Kids played in the road during the day, but were very considerate. The neighbors across the road lit up their campsite with 2 gas lanterns each evening, but there were enough trees between us to keep them from bothering us at all.

Each evening we would put our son in his stroller and walk through the CG. Walking down 3 different loops, we experienced the same behavior on those loops, too. Kids playing, some adults throwing a football in the road, etc., but all respectful, and no obnoxious behavior.

One thing that I think helps is that they have a written "no alcohol" policy in all state parks. But I think their unofficial policy is "don't show, don't tell". If you keep it in a discreet cup and behave yourself, they won't bother you about it. That eliminates those who come out to party it up. The rangers are armed, and they patrol quite frequently. They don't tolerate those who make camping unpleasant for others.

First of all a crowded KOA during a holiday weekend is a recipe for disaster. These privately owned campgrounds are going to do anything they can to make money and that means stacking people on top of each other. That includes Jellystone and most of the other private campgrounds. I really don't know how people stay in those places, especially Yogi Town. We have learned over the years to stay clear of many campgrounds during the holidays, that seems to be when the nuts and drunks come out of the woodwork. I have to say though, in the campgrounds we frequent in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and Florida, the park rangers will not tolerate that kind of behavior, I have seen them run people out in the middle of the night.

It is rediculous when people act that way and it sounds as though in the places talked about in this post, their rude behavior has no consiquences.

Funny huh? It's like fishing. I throw out the line and look at all the bites!

However, did you notice how all I said was that we were not the type to be in bed by 10:00, we meet the security guard(Most hang out with us), and I even said we try to be as quiet as possible. All of a sudden I get responses that I am a public nuisance from Speakeasy like it's only me breaking the quiet time rule in California, LOL. Cajun Camper says we have whimpy Rangers in Cali, I never mentioned rangers, we don't camp where there are Rangers. By the way CC, I never said I spoke for the Left coast, if fact, I didn't even say it was the majority of our group. We don't yell profanities or talk to trees either. So, when you all are done blowing this out of proportion and trying mount some sort of attack on me personally, make sure you understad where I'm coming from.

miss kathy, I'm sorry you had such a hard time.  It was the luck of the draw that you got stuck with such an unruly crowd, and it sucks.  But before these people convince you it was me making all the noise, I was not there.

You need to find a new hobby  :Z  ;) ..I must admit I have to laugh at all the feathers you get ruffled :J  which is so easy to do with some people around here...It keeps me comin' back for more :p....you am what you am.... :U

I feel bad for all of you who had your trips ruined by inconsiderate neighbors!  It's really disappointing to arrive at a campsite with high hopes for a great weekend and have them ruined by a bunch of rude people.  It's happened to us more than a few times both tenting and PUPing.

That said, I admit to not being the quietest person and since I'm somewhat hard of hearing (many years of headphone abuse) people have to speak a little loudly to me as well.  I don't use profanity in regular conversation (though "dammit!" is unfortunately an involuntary reflex when getting stung by a bee or burning myself while cooking - yes, I am extremely clumsy).  We, as parents, try to behave as we wish others would behave when around our children.  It's REALLY frustrating when you and your camping crowd are trying to be considerate of others' families and you don't receive the same respect in return.

What is particularly hard to witness is when people don't watch their children - I've never seen a serious accident but I can't tell you how many LITTLE children (like preschool age) I've seen playing in the road and/or wandering around the campground unattended.  It's almost as if people seem to think that the act of camping generates some kind of accident immunity.

I believe that you were not there- Maybe it would of helped if you were. :yikes:

you know, I paid for the site, it is mine and I will do as I d#$% well please.

If you don't like it, just pack up your little tent on wheels and leave.

This is why our family no longer camps on long holiday weekends.

The campground is always packed, and seems to be full of bozos.  :J

Our favorite story was two years ago on Labor Day weekend.    :D

No Thanks!

Some of the SCCampers and I would have had your back.  We have done it before with some unruly campers that take things too far.  Just ask the Vail Lake crew of the Halloween 2006 Rally.  We almost came to blows with some drunk, loud, and obnoxious people in a 250K motorhome.  We just know when enough is enough, some don't.

Okay Viking, I'll admitt it I took the bait: But you did say in your original post that "I think I can speak for most of us SoCal people" maybe you didn't say all, but come on. You said in this post that I said you have "whimpy Rangers in Cali" well that is not what I said, I said "It also sounds as though the rangers in that California campground were pretty whimpy." as you can see I was talking about the specific campground Miss Kathy was referring to. You see I can split hairs too. Furthermore if you were surprised because some of us didn't understand you, then maybe you shouldn't bait a hook and cast it out there if you don't want someone to bite.

You knew what you were doing you sly dog, and now I know to watch out for you. I understand you now, and if you ever camp next to me, I would expect to have a cold one together, even if it is after 10:00.

ROTFLMAO!!!!

I prefer camping in Private campgrounds...at least the ones I've stayed at has a staff person there to deal with stuff...State parks the rangers go home at 9 or 10 pm, then it's a fre for all and the only number you have is a recording

Thanks for lauging because I meant it that way but the ones that don't care about their neighbors have that attitude.

YOu are so right-they think that they paid $20 and they can do what they please. But they really only paid for 8 idiots and I got a total of 25 idoits for the same price- what a cheap week-end for them -and for me wished I had not gone and spent the $100 on gas, $200 on food, $160 on site and just to add fuel a extra $18 for parking.  Think I will stay home the next time or only camp in the winter.
