Not so fun week-end

I just spent 4 days of what I thought would be a great week-end of camping to putting up with the rude & very loud neighbors. :yikes:  They thought that it was ok to go until 2 am with a laugh of a person that I wanted to drown.  The next morning when I said something to them,  they said that we are not staying at a 5 star hotel. Sometimes I think that people forget to respect others.  I don't think camping is what it used to be and that with all the cuts to the State Parks, in California they don't have enough people to take care of this issue.  And on top of it they had over 25 people and 8 tents on the space and the Ranger let them stay.   Boy I guess not following the rules does work for some people.  I think that I will start camping on the week-days before a long holiday week-end and leave the crazy week-ends to others.

Sorry to hear about your lousy camping neighbor's. For the most part. people camping are very considerate of there neighbor's, but yes even jerks get out to camp to. And I am really surprised the rangers wouldn't do anything about it. You might want to send an email or letter to the rangers head office and give them dates and times of the innocent, because I am sure the ranger person wasn't doing there job that night.
By the way, which CG were you at ?

The park is called Caswell Memorial State Park, Ripon, CA and I talked to the ranger and he says not much he could do except enforce the parking of no more then 2 cars.

What about 'Quiet Time'. Definitely a ranger not doing his/her job. :compumad:

I think I can speak for most of us SoCal people when I say................Quiet time Schmiet time.  I can't think of a time we were all hunkered down in our trailers and in bed at 10:00pm.  We try to be as quiet as possible, yet we most always get to meet the security guard, sometimes we are on a first name basis.
It's a luck of the draw when you camp in a CG as to who your neighbors are.

It sounds to me like you folks are part of the problem rather than part of the solution. You "try to be as quiet as possible?" Do you realize how much sound travels outdoors? Why do you think that you "get to meet the security guard?" Evidently you are bothering people.

Maybe you should do your camping at a place of your own so that you are not a public nuisance.

Geez.

You know what Viking, I hate to say it, but SpeakEasy is right. If it's so important for you and your crew to be loud during quiet times then maybe you should consider finding a place where you won't disturb anyone else. After all rules are rules in campgrounds and we don't get to pick and choose which ones we want to obay and which ones we want to break.

It also sounds as though the rangers in that California campground were pretty whimpy.

By the way Viking I hope you don't speak for all Southern Californians, I would like to think that your statement would be the minority approach to camping by those on the left coast.

Hey Viking. I agree and disagree. I am usually in a group that sits around a campfire drinking fun juice well past midnight. Quiet time doesn't mean you have to be in bed by 10:00 and I realize that people enjoying the campfire will make some noise. It's the loud Hoots and Hollers and occasional F-bombs that set the nuisance folks apart from the typical folks. There is a line to be crossed. Most don't cross it and I can handle the folks who get close to it and know the security guards on a first name basis  :D

Those that do cross it should be told to tone it down. Last year, a small but very noisy and profane group kept everyone in the campground up until well after 3am. Finally the rangers sent them packing after multiple warnings. 1 time, after a young mother asked them to keep it down around midnight, and to please stop throwing F-bombs around, they became even more riled up. This prompted the first ranger visit. These are the folks I'm mainly talking about.

well that was kind of a rude response on their part...I find that tenting groups tend to be louder as it's hard to hang out a tent so they are outside. I'm sorry, The rangers should have enforced the number of tents and peple on the site

there are a great deal of the SCCampers that are late nighters, but we also tend to put the action in the center to help buffer other campers. some people are extremely light sleepers and hear everything. most campgrounds quiet time is until 7 am or 8am...but people let there kids out screaming thru the campgound or starting up their diesel trucks  at 6 am, but for some reason that's acceptable??

as far as Vikings comments..when are you guys ever going to learn he says stuff just to get everyone all worked up...weather true or not....he likes to stir it up...so take a deep breath and chill...

You know anytime I have a problem with that I just go outside in my underwear, no shirt, no shoes, and my shotgun.  I start talking to trees and acting like me and the trees are carrying on a conversation, and then we get in a little argument and get loud and as soon as I get the offenders attention with this routine I jack a shell in the shotgun and start screaming at the tree with some good ole speaking in tongue action.  That usually gets them to pack up and go home with out me even having to speak to them.

People are afraid of crazy people. :banghead:  :theking:

Viking....you pot stirrer! :p
I'll come right out and ruffle some feathers.  This is my No.1 pet peeve when camping.

My opinion is:  If you want to drink and party, get loud and act like an ass.....stay home in your back yard, or stagger on down to the local tavern.

Living in a college town here in southern CA, I'm up to my eyeballs in partying, loud, obnoxious idiots.  My next door neighbor, a renter (of course), and a middle aged adult has 2 modes, "work" and "drunk-on-her-front-porch-20'-away-with-a-handful-of-friends".

When she keeps us up, she's greated by my lawn mower at 7am the next morning, followed by a few test runs with my chainsaw.

I won't stand for it in the campground either.  One time while tent camping, I pushed my Diesel Rabbit backwards into the parking area which was right next to the tents of the a-holes that had been partying the night before.  Nothing like the crack of a diesel engine at 6am and a heavy layer of unburned diesel smoke filter through the ol' campsite, eh!

I agree.  I'd start with a phone call to only a supervisor and get the name(s) of the badges that were on duty that weekend, along with the supervisor's name, and then follow up with a letter directly to the supervisor's boss.  Sometimes you have to be willing to stand up for what's yours and what's right.  Otherwise, you wind up with..........well, like what you wound up with.

I could of used you this week-end- I don't mind when people are having a good time and it late- it is when they think that they have to talk above a very loud scream that I get pissed.  I wished that I had a generator to back up to the side of the tents and pull the cord- what fun that would of been- the problem with state parks is that they don't have "security guards" if you need someone you have to call 911- and the sheriff comes out- like he will do much - except tell them to be quiet and 10 minutes after he leave - it will  be worse-and then you have to worry about leaving your site for the rest of the trip for any length of time.   : :(

We just had the same type of experience of rude, inconsiderate behavior over Memorial Day weekend in a rural county park campground.

Kids were out running around at all hours getting injured running into things in the dark.

Crying infants in tents were agitated with the adults loudly arguing at the same site in the wee hours.

Two motorhomes and one hardside travel trailer were parked in the same campsite space (one on the intended space and one on either side in the grass) and another 4 or 5 cars visiting the site blocking in the road and parking on our site.

Alcohol and other substances were openly consumed (alcohol not allowed in the park and the other substances not legal anywhere).

Loudly playing music in the showerhouse (with a laptop computer!).

Kids climbing over a pile of gravel brought in for campsite repair, throwing the rocks at each other and anything else of interest.

Shower sinks and showers left running to use up the hot water.

Church youth group meeting at one campsite with loudspeakers set up on tripods (I guess they wanted to save the cost of reserving a shelter for their group).

Tenters washing their dishes and leaving suds, grease and food particles under the water hydrants. Neighboring campers trying to start and tune a noisy moped.

Since my campsite was near the lake, a rusty conversion van full of loud fishing teens parked on my campsite to shorten their walk to the lake.

Other camping adults walking to the front of my campsite where they got somewhat better cellphone reception to repeatedly loudly call for more people to come join the party at their campsite.

Needless to say, we didn't spend much time at our campsite or get a lot of sleep.  We were out hiking, fishing, geocaching, visiting garden centers and plant nurseries, and visiting local antique shops.  This was our second visit to this campground, and my wife tells me it was her last.

Sacrawf, you must have been camping here in Cali?  Tell me that doesn't happen in the beautiful Land of Lincoln! :yikes:

Our stay up top at the Grand Canyon was "disturbed" by the big tent camping group across the road.  Umpteen cars parked everywhere, a tent city, a big generator running most of the time to power a huge TV so they could stand around hooting and playing a video game.  Really made me glad to think we'd just driven 12hrs and 2 days and spent a couple hundred in fuel in order to pay an entrance fee and then listen to that.

Similar deal in Kings Canyon Nat'l Park, but thank goodness we were on the other side of a hill from the pack of 20+ who'd rented a stake side U-haul to bring up all their gear, food, and water.  Nothing like a game of convict football in the middle of the campground to let you know they think the world is their ghetto.

Mmmm......wait, why do I do this again?
