Coleman Ticonderoga tent trailer (weighs about 1370 lbs)?

I'm just a newbie here, any info would be helpful.

Also, I'm thinking of buying this tent trailer for $700. Has good zippers, canvas, and plastic windows - but ugly exterior paint and no interior fixed lighting.

Thanks again for any feedback. I'll keep checking back. John

I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble pulling that light of a trailer but you should check on a few things first such as your hitch rating and class but more importantly your GCVWR (Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating) this is the total weight of the TV and Pup combined. You should be able to get that info from the TV dealer.

Usually towing anything over 2000# requires trailer brakes too, so depending on just how much the Pup actually weighs and how much gear you plan to haul in it, brakes maybe something you want to get advice on as well. If the Pup is even equiped with them that is.

Good luck!

Can't help you on the towing weight question, but it sounds like too much money for such an old trailer, that small, with some sort of weird exterior paint issues.

Hunt around on CraigsList up and down CA and see what you can find.  I'd say spend a little more for something a bet newer/nicer......unless for some reason this one just catches your eye, and you're looking for a "vintage" popup.

Your van will have no trouble pulling that light of a camper. You could even go larger if you want. Just be aware of the tow limitations with the van.

Couple of things to watch out for here.  You're not saying what the 1370 lbs. figure is for.  I would suspect it's the unloaded vehicle weight.  Once you start adding your equipment, the weight of the camper can go up fast.

Does your Town and Country have a trailer towing package?  You really need to research your Town and Country setup and weight limits.  Harleywolf recommended contacting a Chrysler dealer, they'd be able to help you out here.  In many cases, vans without towing packages will handle up to 2000 lbs.  With a towing package, that can go up to 3500 lbs.

There are other factors to consider here also, gross combined weight rating is a big one.  Make sure you get that number from your dealer.  You might be able to find the information online with some work on your part.  The more information you can get, the better we will be able to help you.

Before we got the truck, we pulled our Sun Valley with a Town and Country without the tow package.  It had no problem doing so, we had a hitch and break controller installed and used a sway bar.  We also never pulled on any mountain or even hilly area (we are in the low country after all and did our camping pretty locally).  I do prefer towing with the truck and feel a little safer Not to mention the convenience of the truck...

Everytime someone mentions if a Town & Country can tow their PopUp, I always think of my father's 1971 Chrysler Town & Country!  With my 190 lb Alaskan Malamute's nose out the back window, he pulled an old Starcraft PopUp, and later a Coleman PopUp all over California, Arizona, and Utah.  Countless scrapes as we entered or departed a driveway!!:p
