Has anyone camped around Estes Park Colorado?

Shepherd

What kind of campground you looking for?

Moraine CG in RMNP is great, but you'll be boon docking.  No electrical or water hook ups, but there is drinking water available in different parts of the CG.  Moraine is on the Estes Park side of RMNP.

On the Grand Lake side a commercial CG called Winding River Resort is really nice and you can get water/electric sites to full hookups.

Shepherd is right. Moraine CG is beautiful. When we were there in October it was during the Elk rut and there were Elk all over the place. It was nothing to be sitting in your campsite in the morning and then all of a sudden a huge elf would come out from behind your pop up like you weren't even there. KEEP YOUR DISTANCE THOUGH.

We drove over to Grand Lake and had lunch one day, a very pretty little town on the lake, but I didn't see the campground.

We have camped at Winding River several times and is a nice campground, the pine beetle has taken its toll over the past couple years so the sites are not as secluded as they used to be, but that is common, at least on the west side of the continental divide.

If you are interested, I have a photo set of Moraine Valley.  I made it public so anyone can view it to give you an idea of the place.  They aren't the best of shots, but a collection of a few days camping there.  The campground is on one side of the valley.  In fact, some of the tent sites on the edge of the CG are open to the valley. I'll leave the set public for a couple of weeks so you can take a look at a typical day in RMNP

Thanks for the info, if just DW and me I would go there but we will have DD and DN and they want to go swimming. So we will go to one by a lake.

What do you mean they aren't the best shots? Those are beautiful photos. I love Moraine Valley it's hard to take a bad photo there. By the way what kind of camera and lens were you using? I need a good camera without spending a small fortune.

Thanks for the compliment.  I think at that time I was using the Nikon D70, the 18-70mm kit lens, and a bunch of manual focus old lenses.  Any of the newer Nikon or Canon Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras should work for you.  Most you can get with out breaking the bank, the higher end stuff though might have you sleeping on the sofa for a while :)  Moraine is such a fantastic place.
