Quote from: griffsmomI would really like to do this, and Dave has only requested that there be cable so he can watch the football games--a very reasonable request, so I'm thinking either Newport Dunes or Flying Flags. I have not checked availability yet for either cg, but am leaning towards FF, just because the sites are a bit bigger and they appear to be a little less expensive ($76 vs. $89). I don't know if they'll give us a group rate if we have enough families. In any event, we should probably move on this soon before sites sell out.

What are your thoughts on these two possible CGs?

Lori, I'd be willing to call Newport Dunes to check on group rates.  Given traffic issues I'd rather keep it more local if possible.  I like both places, but would lean toward Newport, just in terms of proximity.  The extra $13/night would be more than made up for in gas at this point.  Let me know.

Just called Newport Dunes.  Their group rate (10 sites) would be $37/night for that week.  Can't beat those prices!  But Nick, the group reservation guy, said that he has room for only 1 more group.  We need to make a decision ASAP.

Thanks Laura!!

Okay, we've got interest from:
1 58Air
2 dkutz (Friday arrival?)
3 wavery (?)
4 surfcampers
5 azusateach
6 griffsclan
7 dee4j (?)
8 jendak (?)
9 boothebunch (?)

Is any of the above able or willing to definitely commit? Laura, what is the cancellation policy if we reserved the sites now just to be safe but needed to cancel them if we couldn't get enough families for the group rate?

Is anyone else interested given the location? We need at least a couple more families and $37/night is a pretty good rate. Plus, judging by the Easter rallies, I'm sure the cg will offer lots of activities for the kids geared toward the Thanksgiving holiday.

Lori, I didn't ask about anything except rates & availability.  If Lisa looks at this I bet she could give us more info. since she's wagonmastered for us there.  I'll call in the morning to get more info. if you want.  And if we can hold the sites at no charge I'll hold 10.  How's that?

Is it too late to call tonight and reserve the 10 sites? if so, then tomorrow sounds like a plan.  Lisa--can you give us your insight?

Thanks again for calling Laura!

Can't commit because we don't know whats going on with family get togethers this year.  If its here then Dunes is awesome, and super close we could set up thurs morn and eat at home and sleep in camp.  If we go up to uncles then FF would work good.  So it all depends.

Flying Flags can't do but Newport yes.. you can put me down for Tues or Wed. I will not be staying there Wed nite but will be back Thurs nite..

anyone interested in an extra site for the feasts and fire????

It's amazing how fast a 22 people T/G dinner can be put together. All I had to do was try to plan a camp-out. :p

I guess that next year, I'll talk to my DW first.  :sombraro:

Well......at least I know what we are doing for T/G now :frosty: .

I learned something else today......DW reads these posts at work. :compumad:

Okay, this is what I found out from Newport Dunes:

First, Nick is just about impossible to get in touch with.  Didn't speak with him but some other nice guy at the regular reservation desk.  He said that for less than 10 sites it would be between $62-68/night, depending on which row we're in.  He also said we'd need to book no later than mid-September, as Thanksgiving week always fills up.  If we reserve 10 sites at the group rate and can't fill all 10 we'd be charged the regular rate.  His advice was to just pay for the 10 at the group rate -- we'd still come out ahead.

As I didn't get to talk with Nick I didn't commit us to anything.  I'm NOT going to wagonmaster this.  So, if someone else wants to call tomorrow -- he's only there until 3:00 -- and do the wagonmaster thing, have at it.  I think it would be great fun to do something different for Thanksgiving & Newport has got lots of positive things going for it.

Job done!

Laura
