Hello all,

It doesn't get any worse then this. I've been serching four a pop up for a good friend of mine the last month or so to find a great deal. Finally I find a Fleetwood Bayside CP in PA. So four of us pile into my truck and drive for about 3/1-2 hours to Media PA Friday night. Saturday (which is today) we get up early and go check out this camper. We spend about 2 hours looking it over. For a 2007 I have to say it was in pristine condition. All checks out. We pack it up and head back to Long Island, NY. Of course we hit 3 hours worth of traffic, but any way we finally get home. We decide to open the camper up because all it really needed was a real good cleaning. As we attempt to crank the roof we notice that the front righ corner is not going up. I crawled under the camper to see what the problem is and notice a broken cable. Now, my question is...........for a 2007 is this normal for it to break and what would cause this to happen. And would this still be covered under warranty even thougth she is the second owner. The dealer is giving her a 30 day warranty from where she purchased it from, but I would hate to have to take the ride back to PA. Would I be able to bring it to any aurthorized dealer?  I'm feeling really bad that my friends can't enjoy there camper yet because of this issue. We have a camping trip planned for the 1st week in Aug. I'm hoping this isn't a big problem. Other then that this camper looks new. Can any one give me some advise please.

Thanks to all!

I believe Fleetwood specifically warns against cranking up the roof without unlatching all 4 latches. Leaving one or more latched would cause your problem!

Look at the bottom of this page http://www.popupportal.com/manuals.asp for a link to 'Coleman lift system'.

Fleetwood's warranty is only for the original owner, not the second owner.  The warranty that the dealer provided is probably an in house warranty only.  You would need to read the fine print and see.  Good luck in getting the camper repaired.  It is not normal for cables to break.:)

I had one of my cables break. I went to the dealer and they could order the cable from the factory (pre-cut to size and ready to install) and it would take 7-10 days. Then for them to install it would take some more time at a cost of around $300-350. Since I was leaving on a trip in a few days this wasn't an option. Someone on this forum told me they had the same problem and got the parts at Home Depot for around $12 and did it themselves. I did the same thing and did the work by myself. It would have been much easier with two people. I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing but it wasn't all that bad. I managed to get it done in time to go camping and it's been working fine since then. If you have the manual there will probably be a diagram showing the lift system.

Good luck.

22 Dollars for the cable-- 2.5 hrs of fun to install it.....Its not real difficult.....you do have to remove some pieces to do the job...take your time and save yourself some $$

It took me longer than 2.5 hrs but as I said I was doing it alone and I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing. I wouldn't exactly call it fun but it really wasn't that bad. If I ever have to do it again it will be much easier and who knows, maybe even fun?????

In my reading of the thread I didn't see the lift system repair manual link so here it is: http://www.popupportal.com/PUPmanuals/Coleman_Lift_Systems.pdf

If you do the work yourself I strongly recommend getting the tool (I forget what they call it) that crimps the clamp around the cable. The guy at Home Depot told me I could do it with some pliers but I wasn't about to trust it to a pair of pliers so I bought the tool.

Well, I have to say that the dealer that the camper was brought to was very helpful. The job was done in 24 hours at a cost of $184.00 which I don't think was that bad. They were very concernered with our camping trips and when the camper was going to be needed next. It's fixed, was fixed by an authorized fleetwood dealer, so that makes me feel better. We are getting ready to go camping this weekend. All is good again.

Thank you to all for all your input! Maybe next time I might be able to handle it my self. Let's hope there is no next time.

Happy Camping everyone!  :U
