My pop up lift system (1992 Viking) is stuck in the UP position!!  One corner won't lower at all!   Any suggestions?  Luckily we are in a friends back yard so we have time (no campground owners looking over our shoulders!)
Thanx

Not to imply anything derogatory, but you did make sure that the safety pole was removed on that corner, correct?  Ours has two that we use on opposite corners after raising the top.

Other than that, all I can suggest is trying to raise it to max height (Without stressing the canvas) and then trying to lower it.

I don't know if the early 90s Vikings used the Goshen lift system, but here is there web site.  You can call them or you local Viking dealer for suggestions.

Not familiar with the lift system, but when I had something similar occur, I found that when washing the camper a rag had somehow fallen on to one of the four lift cables. As soon as I got it pulled out, everything worked fine.  Check for anything that might be restricting moving parts.

If I remember correctly - from looking at our local Viking dealer, Vikings have a cable lift system - though the cranking may be different than my old Starcraft, they would still work on system of steel cables and pulleys.  If a cable gets pinched, or off the track of the pulley wheels, it can get stuck and then the cable won't move, therefore, the top won't move.

When putting it up, did it seem to crank hard? or was one corner going up faster or slower than others?  did it make any unusual noises?

Most of your cable is going to be pulled IN when the top is in the UP position. Take a look underneath and see if any of the cable is showing any type of wear, kinking, rust, broken threads - anything.  Take the covers (if any) off the inside of the lifter posts and see if you can visually check the pulleys - there should be a pulley at the top & bottom of each section - In my camper, there are 3 per post - one near the roof, one near the floor, and one in the middle telescoping section.  My guess would be that the cable has slipped or worn off the pulley wheel and is jammed between a pulley wheel and the side of the pulley.  Free it, and you should be able to lower your camper.  You may have to replace a pulley or they may just have something jamming it.

As long as you are in there - this is a good time to clean and lubricate the pulleys, too - it will makeyour ups and downs smoother!
