Well, I bought the pop-up 2 weeks ago and the last 2 weekends have been smokers! It was 101 today and intends to remain that way through the week ahead. I do have AC on the camper but it's no fun to sit in the camper all day in the AC, I can do that at home. Anyway..Hopefully the heat will break in a couple of weeks and we'll take a short trip camping at Lake oauchita in Arkansas.

You want Hot, it was 113 today here in Las Vegas!!!!
Congrats on your NTU PU!! If you want to beat the heat and make your AC work better invest in some solar covers for your bunkends from Pop-Up Gizmos, almost everyone that has a PU knows of these and get some reflective from your local hardware store and cut it to fit the windows in your PU, you'll be surprised how much cooler the PU will be inside....Ed C.

If you read this thread you will have a new apriciation of dry heat. I'll take humidity and mosquitos over earthquakes any day.

No disrepect GrizzlyTaco, but I have been in the Las Vegas 113 degree weather. As a matter of fact I was four wheeling in the desert outside of Vegas and our guide told us it was 115 and to honest it felt like it does here in Louisiana when it's 85 degrees. It was actually a breath of fresh air.

I agree...it's been near 100 hear as well with high humidity the heat index is around 111 or so.

We just bought a PUP and are waiting to go camping till it cools down.

I had the same thoughs. What's the point of going camping if your going to sit in the camper all day.

I agree with you CA sucks......they say that within the next 30 years there is a 90% probability of a catastrophic EQ......I hope that about 15-20 million people take that warning seriously and head inland.  :-()

Anyone that would purposely move to CA would have to be out of their mind. I say that we should put warning signs all around the state that say something like, :yikes:  :yikes:  "California is subject to severe to catastrophic earthquakes at any minute......enter at your own risk".  :yikes:  :yikes:

I'm a native Californian, and I'll take earthquakes over tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, freezing rain, snow, ice, humidity, and bugs the size of your head any day.

When the 5.4 quake hit last week, I was ordering lunch at a local cafe. You could tell the natives, we looked up for a moment, mentally assessed the immediate severity, and then went right back to doing what we were doing even tho the earth was still rocking and rolling. Of course, had the quake been more severe, I'm sure we all would have pushed, shoved, and trampled each in our efforts to get out the door. After all, this cafe is next to the courthouse and filled with a bunch of attorneys. ;)

We were in Zion in early July when it was 106 - 109 degrees for three straight days.  We were still able to enjoy the park during the morning and early afternoon, after that we sat in the river with some cold beverages.  Having no AC, vent or fan sucked.  But that is the price for being new to this.

The one disappointment was the refrigerator couldn't keep food cold even when we didn't open it up between 10am and 4 pm.  Propane was better than the hook-up, but was still very bad.

The natural air conditioning just came thru here in the Great Lakes (Michigan to be exact).  Friday's high is supposed to be around 73 with lows around 50, in the 40s up north!  Fall is just around the corner.   :-()

LOL! I've had the thought a few times over the years that it is a good thing that we have so many different tastes, likes and dislikes among our population. What if we all wanted to live in CA? A house with a lot would cost you a few hundred million, probably. What if everyone wanted to live here in NC? Same thing.

Having said that, I've been to San Diego maybe 3 times, the Monterey area, San Francisco 4 or 5 times, Sacramento, and as far north as Point Reyes Lighthouse. CA is a beautiful state! I LOVE to VISIT there. But I don't think there is a job offer coming my way that is capable of dragging me out there! I have always lived in NC, and as one of the state advertising slogans used to go, "I like calling NC home." I'm glad you and several other million people love CA. That keeps my state from getting too crowded and expensive. There are already too many people here, IMHO, but I have to admit those people bring money and jobs.

I'm glad many people like the FL heat (I hate it). I'm glad many like the busy metropolitan lifestyle found in NYC, Chicago, LA, etc. (I would hate that, too). Thankfully, our diversity in interests spreads us out pretty good. We can all travel and enjoy the areas where others live, then go back to our own homes. What a country!
