Does your add a room or screen room put extra stress on your awning poles when it it very windy?  Has anyone had any trouble in the wind?

Both need to be "anchored" securely and yet that has it's limits, too.

I've had both, the add-a-room came with my previous PU, a Coleman/Fleetwood Yukon, and it was such a hassle to set-up. Liked it real well when it was done, but the puting up and taking down was a real chore. On the present Starcraft just have the awning and I opted for the screen room that fits perfect over the picnic table. And since the picnic table is where most of the activity occurs - cooking, eating, sitting around, tying flies, tinkering - that works best for me and for what I do. I stake and tie off the screen room just in case a high wind comes up - and should it be blown away I'm no where near the replacement cost of the add-a-room. And should it become a matter of which one is to come down in the event of an oncoming high wind, the PU awning will be secured first.

Bottom line, for me, is that screen room sets up and comes down faster, costs less to buy and replace ... and I simply like it's location ~ over the picnic table.

We've used the add a room only a few times, too much hassle to setup. We did use it once when the wind was up. The velcro gave way and the panels flapped around some. The awning poles seemed just fine. It wasn't a major wind event though.

We switched to the seperate screen room, place it over the picnic table and be done with it. We eat, play games and hang out there. Works better for our needs.

Okay I'm the guy that people seem to have an issue with when I tell them that it takes me about 15 minutes 20 at the most to set up my awning and add-a-room by myself. It just takes practice and as everyone will usually tell you, they really love the add-a-room they just don't like setting it up. Getting to your question. I have never had an issue with my add-a-room in the wind. I do stake her down though.

While I do stake down my add-a-room, I put the flaps up when there is wind so it can pass through rather than pull away from the velcro on the awning.

If I were again more healthy physically, it would take me 15-30 minutes solo to set the AAR up.  But, with arthritis and my bum leg, I no longer skeddaddle!

Hi Nancy,

It takes me about 15 extra minutes to put up my AAR.  I will leave the awning out with the AAR attached in worse weather than I will with out it.  I just used my AAR this past week and was very happy to have it.  We have been in 50  + mph winds and came through it fine.  The AAR helps stabilize the awning.:)
