Here is my list....

Faria Beach in Ventura..... its a small one... on the beach but first come first serve.

Lake Cachuma in Santa Barbara....... only group reservations so I'm not sure how lucky people get for the single sites???

Huntington Beach in Orange County........ its pretty $$$ but really great to be so close to the beach!

Dogwood in Lake Arrowhead...... just discovered this place a couple weeks age.... really nice and the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen at a campground!

Dee4j

wow, that's a tough one...I guess it depends on the time of year and what activities I'm looking for:

in no particular order

newport dunes- newport beach
canyon Rv-yorba Linda
Flying Flags-Buellton
lake lopez-arroyo grande
lake casitas-ojai
San Mateo -San Clemente

BootheBunch

Hmmmm....I guess

Campland by the Bay, San Diego
Flying Flags, Buellton
Newport Dunes

Not much dirt and they have heated pools...

Ours is Pinezanita.  About 4 miles south of Julian, 4.5 miles north of Lake Cuyamaca, and the best part: an hour and a half from home!!!

They have really big and pretty level sites, mostly shaded, pea-gravel (so you don't get all muddy if it rains), and their own fishing pond that they keep stocked with catfish, bass and sun fish.  Great fun for everyone.  Check out their website at //www.pinezanita.com

Bobbi and I are always looking to get out of the heat during the summer.

We went there for our first trip with the PUP.  Its a nice place.  The pond was pretty low when we were there..but... we got SNOW the second night.  I also got chicken pox!  fun trip.  NICE place we will have to go back sometime.

We are doing William Heise this year for our Julian fix...

Well.....it didn't really have anything to do with where we were. I developed a Sun allergie, spending all of those years sailing. When I get too much Sun my amune system goes to ,like, zero.

Some of our faves are Lopez Lake.  This one is right in our backyard and we just rediscovered it this last season.
San Simeon State Beach just north of Cambria.
Lime Kiln State Park on the Big Sur Coast.
Did Lake Cachuma on Cachuma Pass earlier this summer just before school got out.
If I think of more I will possibly edit them in.

DT Sante Fe

Fav local spot is El Capitan State Beach, Can be crowded and hard to get a site but is is great family beach camping spot. Lake Cachuma is in Santa Barbara not Ventura, and is on San Marcos Pass (highway 154), nice spot but it can get hot and you can not swim in the water as it is a resevoir for SB drinking water. Although you can put a boat in the water.

I was thinking Ventura County............ its in Ventura County, right

At any rate its still a cool place.... your totally right about the water issue.... I never understood the not being able to swim in it but could put a boat in???  Maybe its a human waste thing???  I work in the aquatics industry so I know all about people poopin in the water :J
