Need a new 12 volt deep cycle battery... where can I get a good deal?

The 12 volt deep cycle battery that came with our PUT looked really pretty... but it ended up being toast so we need to invest in a new one.... any recommendations on who has the best deals on them would really help  DH said the brand of the old one was Trojan if that matters.

I buy mine at Sam's Club.  It doesn't matter what brand battery you buy.

I'll bet ya a dollar that the old battery is dry as a bone. I am amazed at how many people don't check the water in their battery.

I found Auto Zone to have decent prices. That's where I bought mine.

Trojan makes good batteries. Wonder why your's is toast? Cuz previous owner abused it or something else? I got my group 24 at Sears ('05, going strong), they must have been on sale (compared to sams)!

DH took it to auto zone and they had it all day and it wont hold a charge.  

The people we bought the PUT from bought it brand new in 2004... they used it twice and it has been sitting in their garage since.  There are things in this trailer they never even used!  But yeah, the battery also sat that whole time too.  Its a shame cause its a really nice looking battery, I was really hoping it would be okay... but no luck.

Oh and Wavery.... DH put water in.... didn't help.

I bought one earlier this year at autozone.  And, take your old one with you - and you can get a $10 core charge refund/discount.  Make sure your new battery is the same size as the old battery or it might not fit in the battery box.

To help preserve your new battery, do not connect it to the PUP until you are actually camping as your propane leak detector will drain it.

 You can't just put "water" in it and expect it to charge right! The battery if after looking at each openning and seeing if there is any "water" covering the plates; needs to have only distilled water added! There is a post about the ABC's of batteries in one of the general areas on the first page of popup times. It is very informative.

You have to put DISTILLED water in it before the water level gets below the top of the plates. Putting water in a dry battery is kinda like closing the barn door after all the horses have escaped.

Walmart has good deals on batteries.

Do you do a lot of dry camping?
If so, now is the time to look at your battery options.
A single group 24, marine deep cycle battery will sufice at a minimum
You could get a bigger group 27 or a group 31 for more amp hours, or even consider two batteries.

 I know for a fact that Walmart just raised its battery prices for every battery that they carry. So not throw you off, consider either Sams club or costco. Yes you pay a yearly membership fee but their prices are better than most.
 Also be aware that a RV battery does not have the same warranty as a regular car battery. It has a much shorter warranty period. Go online and compare battery prices then go buy a battery.

We have costco membership... so we're good there  Do you know if costco gives you the core credit?  I don't think they do but not sure???

Oh and I forgot to mention that the old battery was also leaking so that may explain something?  Anyway... thanks for all the feedback

 Any auto parts or costco or sams, walmart etc, will charge a core fee UNLESS you have the old battery present at the time of the sale. If you do not have the old battery, that is when you get charged the core fee which is in addition to the purchase price. You get the core fee plus tax back when you turn in your old battery.
 Make sure the old battery is not cracked or busted. I would not take a broken battery back for even a core return fee.
