Hello All,

Just looking to see if anyone has suggestions for a campground aroun Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL.  We are on the Wisconsin side of the boarder so we are looking for southern WI or Northern IL.  We camp a lot in WI but usually go north, not south.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks all

Personnally I've not camped near there.  However, I have friends that have.   They like Illinois Beach State Park.

Went there with the family and after taking a tour around decided to leave. It looked run down and some of the people that where there looked a little shady.Just my opinion.

Chain 'o Lakes State park is nice - haven't camped there with my camper, but we used to put our boat in there all the time, and I've camped there in the group campground with scouts in recent years.

The only negative was mosquitoes at the boat launch area years ago - but I didn't notice that when we took scouts there - The campsites are further in from the river - which is grassy and shallow(mosquito heaven) but with cooler weather right now, I doubt they'd be a problem.

ANything in that area is going to be hard to find - real estate along the I94 area is expensive, and campgrounds have long sold out and been developed.

However, there are private parks out near The McHenry Co  / Lake Co border (west)

I have seen this one and it looks clean and pretty well run  - they have a LARGE population of permanent campsites:

Only 13 miles from Six Flags Great America - shady campground located on 85 acre lake, with heated pool, hot tub, playgrounds, fishing and modern restrooms. Reservations Recommended
