I am new to any forum, but I especially like this one and would like to thank you all for all the advice I have picked up on so far.
Although I have had a trailer for many years that I have had parked on some property, I am very new to PU camping.
I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on alarming it as I am usually away in the bush for hours at a time.

Welcome to pop up times and as for the alarm it all depends on what you are going to keep in it.

Welcome to PUT and the world of PU camping!  I don't leave anything valuable in the PU.  It is too easy to break into one.  If your door is locked someone can just cut the tenting and climb in.  Hopefully you won't have any problems when you are camping.  If you have a ranger in the park, you might want to mention to them that you plan to be away for a bit of time.  :)

As others have said, there is not much between the pup and intruders except:honesty and respect for others property...I have purchased an "Intruder Alarm"that does monitor movement of unit.Unit is very loud!!!Plus I also have a motion detector light for outside. Both have worked very well. They are though "safe t alert",purchased though Camping World.
Otherwise,just a big dog...and 9mm does the job..........

C-Mac,  I would not suggest an alarm.  If someone does try to break in to your pup while you are away and your alarm goes off, who will turn if off so that you don't annoy the rest of the campground ??  Your best protection is to make friends with your neighbors and DON'T leave anything in the pup that you are especially fond of. Lock valuables up in your TV out of sight.  Insure it and go camping.

I went down to Harbor Freight and purchased a small safe, and mounted it inside one of my cabinets.  Its perfect for locking up small items while you are out and about.

Leave your 54" plasma tv at home. (ha ha)

Thank you for your welcomes & advice.
I think it's great having a magazine that's all about PU. And all of you, on the forum that have all the experience with them is huge for me.
Thanks again.

PS ----> I did join the Facebook group as well.

Welcome C-Mac.

I am 48 yrs old and have been camping since I was a kid and have never had anything stolen or even tampered with in all those years. Well except for the occasional shinanigans of the local racoon population.

We will typically secure bikes and kayaks and move certain items inside the pup or the tow vehicle and then lock the door on the pup.

I know there are some bad apples out there, but 99% of the folks out there camping are wonderful people.

Welcome we usually stay around our pup pretty much and i am one that always has to meet any neighbors around me by the time i'm done most know me pretty well

Welcome. My thoughts on items left in the pup when we're out is that anything of value is apt to disappear if someone really wants it. We usually keep most items of value in the vehicle with us, but things like the laptop aren't safe in the high heat of summer locked in the car. So those get hidden under bunks, in cabinets, etc. if we're gone long. BUT- in all my years of camping the most that has ever been stolen from me is a bit of firewood. I almost feel foolish every time I lock the door because I know that there are probably many other campers with the same key, but 99.9% of them wouldn't use it that way anyhow.

We always lock our door when we leave. A little paranoid I guess. Concerned that some kid will sneak into our camper, fall asleep and cause his/her parents alarm.

That actually happened in our group one time. The whole campground was out looking for this poor kid. Parents were terrified but the child was comfortably asleep in someone else's camper.... :p ......never want that to be my camper, I'd feel terrible.
