Hi, All.  We just wanted to let you know that we had to make a hard decision and give Riley, our Labradoodle, to the Poodle Rescue.  It was a very hard move to make...something we have been struggling with for over a year.  Our youngest is allergic to animals...and he was setting her off with her asthma and allergies.  We have had her on 3 meds a day to control it....and that wasn't always the best option.  We also had to limit Riley's boundaries and the time inside the house...which was upsetting to him...causing him to bark a lot (getting us in trouble with animal services) and misbehave.  And, Brandon just found out he is severely allergic to animals, too!  So, for all involved, we had to let him go....hopefully to a family who can let him in their house 24/7 (as that is what he loves).

The Poodle Rescue said he is a very cute dog and will find a home quickly.  They also said he does have dander....we did not get a hypoallergenic dog...like we thought we paid for!!  Eventually we will end up getting a purebred poodle, as that has been what is recommended.

Anyway, see you all soon!

I'm very sorry to hear about Riley I know it must have been  hard on the family to make this choice.  Sometimes no matter how much we love a pet we must remember they are our pets and the people in the family must come first.  I'm very glad to hear you gave him to a rescue service and not the pound!  I know they'll find him a good home and new family.
In time you'll find the perfect dog for the family I too have had to get rid of a dog because of their dander not a fun thing to deal with.
Take care and know you did the right thing......carol

BUMMER!  Tough choice, but if everyone seems to be allergic then, its the right thing to do.

We have a ChiHuahua that my kids love, but we could do without.  Because of the kids she is still with us, otherwise, she would be gone by now.

Good luck on search for new puppy

Hi Lisa,

We are very sorry to hear that you had to give Riley up. If we were in a different situation, we would have taken him in a heartbeat. He is such a love and will be dearly missed at the camp-outs.

I hope that the family is doing OK with it. It must be terribly hard but the health of your family must come first. I know how distressing allergies can be. I have my unfair share but I seem to be OK with animals.

What a tough call.  Giving up a "furred" family member is very difficult, been there, done that.  Let yourselves grieve and look for that perfect family member that won't cause trips to the ER.  Many of us know what you are going thru and we are thinking about you and your family. Best of luck.

Lisa and family, I am so sorry to hear that you had to give up Riley.  I can only imagine how difficult that was for you to do.  Our pets become members of our family.  I am sure he will find a good home.  The rescue will make sure of it.

My dad was really allergic to animals and I wanted a dog so bad.  They finally broke down and we did research and found a a poodle.  He was a super dog and my dad didn't have any trouble.  The only problem was all the laughter when you saw a 6 foot, 5 inch man walking this dog down the street.:D

Lisa,

I'm sorry to hear your news but it sounds like it was the best thing to do for all concerned.  I'm sure that Riley will find a good home.  We adopted Sadie from a rescue and she adapted very quickly.

Take care,

Lisa, so sorry to hear that you had to let Riley go. But you're right - your family's health comes first. See you at the Easter rally. Dave

It's all already been said, BUT we want you to know that we're thinking about you guys.  My mom had to give up her 2 dogs last month when she moved and they found wonderful loving homes - the same will be true for Riley - have faith in that!

Sorry to hear about Riley! I hope everyone is doing ok. The rescue groups do a good job placing them and I'm sure he'll find a good family that'll take good care of him. I can tell you poodles make great pets and no shedding but on the downside they do need groomed on a regular basis.  Hope everything works out for you guys.

Rest assured that Riley will be well taken care of.  We have had many cats and one dog, and all but one have been rescue animals.

We recently lost the dog (Her name was Rescue, btw) to age-related issues.  Even though we went to the shelter for a "cheap" dog, in her 12+ years we spent many thousands of dollars dealing with various health issues.  Very, very few people get a rescue dog and then don't take good care of it.

My Ashley would never let you give Jellybean away...she absolutely loves that dog and still talks about it...I now have two poodles now and a foster dog and she still talks about Jellybean...I'm not sure it may be the name.  I'm telling!
