We definitely would do the Redwoods and like the Aug 3 date to avoid the Thomas crowds. Group rate would be cool, but we're up for this activity even at full price. We're thinking about driving to the boardwalk later in the week, since we are extending our stay on this trip, and so are still on the fence about the train to the boardwalk.

We were talking about this on the way home and Leann was asking how we could do this with having TJ along?  If we do not leave him home, guess we can not do the train ride then, unless there is a doggie day care near by or something.

OK the post with all the updated info got lost in the move.  So I reposted the info.  We now have enough people to get the discount for the redwoods trip,  is everyone still interested?  anyone else??

Redwoods - 28
Boardwalk- 16

Quote from: dkutz;202051I know we are still five months out, but I want to gauge interest in the Roaring Camp train ride.  We took Kendall when he was little, and he loved it.

They have two offers, one goes through the Redwoods 1.5 hours round trip, by steam train I believe.  The other goes the the Santa Cruz Board walk, three hour round trip with trains leaving throughout the day, powered by diesel engine

They have Thomas the Tank that weekend, so I would suggest Monday the 3rd.

"They have Thomas the Tank that weekend, so I would suggest Monday the 3rd"

I'm not sure what others are thinking, but I was thinking that Monday the 3rd would be the best day to do a beach day rather than fighting the crowds on the weekend.

Perhaps the train, with advanced tickets could be Saturday or Sunday

Just my 2 cents, but might only be worth 1.....

Also, you don't have me down as being interested for the redwoods ride.

I will add you to the list.

As for the day, I would not attempt to get NEAR that place during the Thomas event.  If its anything like the one locally.  It will be PACKED!  Maybe we can do the train ride early and drive to the beach after??

griffsmom

FWIW, I vote for going on Monday and not during the Thomas weekend. It will be a nightmarish amount of people that will only make accommodating our large group that much more difficult.

boncrab

OK, OK,  I give... good points... Do the train mid-morning, hit the beach after that.

Dee4j

We plan on going to the boardwalk late Monday afternoon so John & leann if you need a dog sitter we can do..Kara will be in heaven. My sister will love it too, her dog is more spoiled than my kids:p

dkutz

The earliest steam train departure is 11:00 am, and the train takes one hour and fifteen minutes.  maybe we can all drive to the beach after???  who knows

JohnandLeann

Thank you Dee for the offer to let Kara doggie sit for us.
I have mentioned it to Leann whenever she asks what we will do with him if want to ride a train or ?

[SIZE="3"]OK if we are gonna do this, I would guess we should start getting checks and money sent in.
