I wanted to add a light for under the pull-out outside stairs (a night light) Needs to be 12 volt, waterproof and VERY durable to handle road debris etc.. Will mount it under the trailer, but bright enough to illuminate the stairs only... Anyone put one on their PUP and what did you use?

You might try something like this:

http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/BLD-4C/4-WHITE-LED-DISPLAY-BLACK-HOUSING/-/1.html

It's only about 1 1/2" long and 1/2" thick.  With only 4 LED bulbs it would take about a gazillion hours to make a dent in your battery.

Hope this helps.

I have seen the 6" or 8" neon light tubes used as a step light.  can be picked up at any auto parts /discount store I think.... and they are made for 12v systems...

I installed a red LED trailer side marker light.  White lights seemed a little glaring to me while camping, but the red light gives a nice illumination over the step.  It's 12v and a sealed solid state unit, very little to worry about.

I installed an illuminated switch just inside the door, so when the light is on the switch is illuminated.

looks like off the the local auto parts store to put these good ideas to work!!
Thanks!

I mounted a three LED utility light that was purchased from West Marine on the underside of the entry step of my pop-up.  It uses nearly no power and provides plenty of light.  It is available in white or red LED versions.  //www.westmarine.com
