We're going to Sequoia Nat'l Park next week for a 3 dayer.  Anyone have CG recommendations and other tips? Dorset Creek and Lodgepole Pines are reservation only and already full, so we'll be taking one of the "first-come-first-served" CG's.

I am sorry to hear that the campgrounds are full.  I have been trying to put together a camp out with some of our local friends, only to find that all of the reservable places are full.  I was going to suggest LodgePole because that is the only place I have stayed inside Sequoa.  Sorry could not be more help.

I went to Sequoia Park page and found this:

Some of the campgrounds do not allow trailers or RVs.  Guess you need to check out some of the info and see what works for you.  I want to go on a whim myself but it is getting harder and harder each time I want to go somewhere, especially during summer time.

Yeah was looking at their site last night and then checked the reservations for the Dorset and Lodgepole CG's.

Kings Canyon is where we've gone 2 years in a row.  All of it's CG's are first-come-first-served, and we've never had a problem getting a nice site.  The first year we stayed up top,

and the second year we went down into the canyon on the back side and that was even better.  I highly recommend that.  We stayed in Sheep Creek CG that time, along the river.

So this year we wanted to try the Sequoia side.  I'm kinda chomping at the bit to go!

Yes it is beautiful in the park.  I think the north side of the park is probably  nicer than the south entrance.  Need to check out the Sheep's Creek area eh?  I will keep that in mind.

Will do, thanks!

And John, yes, you ought to take a run down into the canyon.  It's beautiful.....IMO, much nicer than up top at 7,500', even though I love the BIG trees.

Plus the descent into the canyon is almost as much fun as the climb back out.

The canyon area is down around 4,000'.

There's also a nice cave you can get a guided tour of....if you like caverns and such.
