we have a pick up, and a pop up.
the canoe does not fit on top of the camper, with the AC unit.
so i need either an attached rack for the camper, is there such a thing that will hold it higher up?

or I need something to put on top of the truck,  not the bed  the roof
is there something that will hold it up there?  a rack?
who do i call?  i know this sounds like a stupid question, but i called the  trailer peeps and they don't have anything, i called academy and they are clueless, and i called bass pro shops. they are no help.
i bought a used canoe, a rogue river,  15 foot, three seater.  sold through sam's club.
i tried a search here for "canoe' and all that came up for me is some survey someone did, not what i was looking for.

I have a Fulton Canoe Caddy ~

Used it maybe three or four times but now store my canoe at a fishing buddy's lake house. I bought it just for hauling the canoe there. Works O.K., foam blocks on the cab of the truck for the bow and the stern rides in this "T" and you secure the canoe down fore & aft. The nice thing is the "T" rotates so laoding the canoe is quite easy. Takes an adapter plate for the ball mount so that the base of the "T" is riding on a second smaller ball next to the hitch ball.

Think I paid about a hundred bucks for it (plus shipping). It's in top shape maybe used five times all total. Not using it now and was thinking of selling it on ebay.

Here is a rack that I use for the bikes. You could attach the canoe to this rack very easily no drilling into your camper roof. It is very secure I carry 4 large bikes on mine.  Call them up they are very good people.

to carry the canoe on the truck, I'm sure some kind of ladder rack or contractor rack would work - as long as it had a rear bar fairly level with the top of the roof - then just use the foam blocks and straps from an inexpensive cartop carrier set.  here's one on e-bay - I bought one at Farm and Fleet for about $20 - they're just foam blocks that hook to the gunwhales of the canoe to pad the top of your vehicle.

That, combined with a rear rack or I've seen on some trucks a "T" bar that hooks onto the trailer hitch ( but that means you can't hook up the trailer, unless you get a hitch extension)

I wish I had photos With a canoe on it, but I built this adjustable height rack for my old starcraft.

 [/URL]

the height adjusts so that the bars can drop below the height of the bed pullouts when the PUP is open, or when I don't have a canoe or bikes to carry. (less wind resistance)  I have carried two canoes on it - we don't own a canoe, we borrow them from our scout troop as needed.

I built the rack this way so that there is NO weight on the roof (my camper is 35 yrs old, and the roof is only foam & alum skin) and so that I could carry canoes OR bikes suspended ABOVE the roof.  It would be easy to make this raise ABOVE an AC unit.  It might be possible to adapt it (just one) to the rear bed of your truck to rest the back of a canoe on while the front rests on the truck roof.

There are more photos and diagrams of how the rack was made, (here - http://entertainment.webshots.com/album/560368886ymCNvq )
and how it adjusts in height in my photo albums.   I haven't attached the bike racks yet, don't know if I'll get to them this summer, as I have a new job and may not get to do much camping this year.

I have seen canoes on pickups that had a simple home made rack but I think you can also purchase them somewhere.

Just some 2 x 4's with a crosspiece. The 2x4's should  fit into the bed slots on the pickup.

Friend of mine did this plus a couple of his mods to carry two kayaks.
