Can anyone shed some light on what mileage should one expect from a set of trailer tires. We just returned from an 8645 mi trip to Alaska and back. Trailer is a 2008 Fleetwood Utah. I had to buy new tires at about 7000 mi. The left one had abuot 10% tread left and the right one had maybe 40% with more wear on the inside than the outside. The tire pressure was as required, 65 psi. These were the original tires and were bias ply, not radial. Any experiences will be appreciated. I plan on visiting the dealer where I purchased the camper tomorrow.
Thanks,
Paul

It sounds to me like you may have an alignment problem. If the axle is bent (fairly common problem) it can cause the tires to tow-in or toe-out. Either way, while you are going down the road, the tires may be dragging sideways. Even a slight toe offset, the tires will wear-out rather quickly.

Take a tape measure an measure the distance between the front of the rims and compare that with the measurement between the rear of the rims. The measurement should be exactly the same. You can also take the trailer to a tire store and they can test it by having you drive across a machine that tests for drag..

I haven't been impressed with bias ply ST trailer tires, and my last two sets on my sailboat trailer have been ST radials.  The ride is noticeably more stable than with the original bias plys.  When these OEM bias plys on the Starcraft need replacing, I'm going with ST radials.

But do check out the alignment of your trailer's axle...

Thanks for the responses. I'll have that axle checked for alignment. I did replace the ST's with radials and the impact was very noticeable...much smoother, less bounce as the radials required 50 psi vs. 65 psi on the ST's. I have put almost 2000 on the radials and can detect no wear.

Thanks again.
