I have a 2000 Coleman Utah that I would like to add an A/C unit to.  It wasn't a necessity in Ohio but now we live in Florida and I would like to put one on.

What should I be looking for and where is the best place to get one?

What should I expect to pay to have it installed?

Thanks!

Some Camping World Stores install them.

The A/c will cost $650-$850 plus labor. I would expect labor to be about $200-$300. Another $100-$200 if they have to put in a 20A circuit breaker and outlet. Your PU might already be wired for AC.

I would definitely look into getting the factory roof support. I think you have the ABS roof on that camper.........it MUST be supported properly.

IMHO....you may be better off selling your PU and buying one with the AC already installed.

It is pre-wired for AC and does have the roof support.  Selling the camper and buying another that already has an AC unit seems fullish. Just my opinion.

Will a 13,500 btu unit work?

A 13,500BTU unit should work fine.

Only you know if selling your PU and buying a different one would be "fullish" or not. Sometimes we get attached to our campers or see all of the work of changing over as being a hassle.

The reason that I even brought it up is because Coleman trailers with ABS roofs sometimes have issues. Some of the issues are, that they sometimes crack, warp and generally become problematic, especially when A/C is added.

If your roof is still in good shape, as I assume it is or you wouldn't be thinking about this, this may be a good time to upgrade (to something other than an ABS roof) as apposed to putting a lot of money into adding an A/C unit that may ultimately destroy your nice camper.........is that "fullish"???? Only you know the answer to that one my friend....:D

Contact Peco Camping up here in Tucker, GA.
 Great service and people.
The last time I priced them, they were installing the Coleman 15 K's for around $ 650.00 on their new units.

Thanks! That is a nice price but that is about 700 miles round trip.

Local dealer has a 13,500 for $550 plus labor. Need to check back with the service manager for the labor charge.

You can install the AC your self and save a bunch. The directions come with the unit and it is easy to do. Make sure you get a unit with a plug in 20 amp cord which will plug into the 20 amp dedicated AC outlet already installed in your trailer. You may have to purchase this cord separately if it does not come with the unit...mine did.

If your ABS roof has'nt  had any problems by now, it probably won't as it is probably one of the later ABS models that are trouble free.

When we bought our 01 Niagara new, I installed the AC unit [Coleman] on it by my self and it took about an hour to cut the hole and fasten the unit to the roof...
