It's been a great camping/fishing season, in fact, the last two have been very good ~ good places to camp, followed by some very good fishing and fellowship. Of course, the little Starcraft is my fishing base camp and it has proven to be just right for what I do ... and easy tow, gets back into some of those "off the beaten path" places; and is a comfortable bunk house, getting one off the ground and especially so if the weather turns inclement.

Looking forward to another season. And for those who might have an interest, here's the A. B. C.'s of trout fishing in this neck of the woods:

(A): Rainbow trout

(B): Brown trout

(C): Brook trout

p.s.: (don't let the little brook trout fool you ... what they lack in size they make up for in good eatin'!)

Ever since the movie The River Runs Through It, I've thought I would love to try trout fishing. I've never once used a fly rod, so I would have to work on that for a while. My Dad used to have a fly rod, but he loaned it to one of my uncles many years ago when I was very small, and he never got it back.

But there are just too many things I would like to do, and there's just not enough money or time to get around to them. Maybe someday!

Nice pics.

The Rainbow Trout looks shocked................the Brown Trout looks puzzled.....The Brook Trout looks embarrassed......:p

Time is always hounding us one way or another ...

But you could get into a beginner fly rod combo set-up for around a hundred bucks; and there are sites like this one only the speciality being fly fishing and equipment.

The BIG PROBLEM is when it becomes an obsession/compulsive "hobby"!

Oh man, that rainbow trout looks yummy!  I'll bet you had a full belly that night!  I don't know about that "catch and release" fishing; here in Georgia we "catch, batter and fry"!!!

Trout are my favorite fish ... to catch and to eat!
Trout have some unique qualities ~ they only live in clean, cool, water; and a joy to be around their habitat trying to catch them ... and on a fly rod is a hoot!
In my book, for table fare, they are tops! But here wild trout rank way over pond or hatchery raised fish. Also, trout are best eaten fresh ... right out of the water, cleaned, cooked and eaten. In contrast, you can take bluegill/bream fish and after they are scaled & cleaned, can be frozen in water (like in a milk carton) and then thawed out nine months later and they will taste just like fresh caught. But not trout ... they will turn mushy and not taste like the fresh caught. So I only keep the trout that we will eat for an immediate meal or two. And, surprisingly, the smaller trout (nine, ten inchers) are the best eaters, plus they fit into the pan better!) - Whats more, fish ... all fish, taste better cooked with their heads on. To prove this for oneself, all you have to do is cook some fish from the same batch, with the heads still on and the others with the heads off, and make the taste test yourself. For trout, unlike cooking the bluegill/bream, don't use batter ... just clean out the innards (and the gills), leave the heads on and it's not necessary to scale them, then place them in a skillet (I always prefer cast iron) with a 50/50 mixture of butter and olive oil, and cook over medium heat for about three minutes on each side. The makings for a gourmet dish!

This summer, we caught 2, 12-14 inch trout in a nearby stream while camping. We gutted them, wrapped them in tin-foil with some garlic cloves and butter and tossed them on the fire pit grate for a bit.

:-() OMG...Could not be simpler or any better. There were 6 adults fighting over every bit of those 2 fish. We could have used about 20 more. Gotta love trout! No scales! Taste Great!
