Hi i have Q about tirs i bought two new tires from big o tires they are Commodore st st 175/80R-13 load range c max load at 50 psi is 1360 6 ply, and the tires that came off my camper were Loadstar K-550 st 175/80D-13 with the load range D 8 ply with max load  of 1610 at 65 psi. would i have any problem with the new tires ?? my camper is a 12ft with the trunk and slide out dinnet a/c shower heat and the toilet and all my stuff the gross weight of my camper from the factroy is 3500 lbs. just gussing the weight of thecamper is about 2700 lbs.

wavery

It might be a good idea to take the camper to a scale and have it weighed. It may surprise you......;).....my guess would be closer to 3200# if you carry the normal stuff that most of us do.

At any rate, even 2700# would be right at the limit of those tires. You should keep a close eye on your tire pressure. That's critical when running at the limit. I wouldn't run them for more than 3 years. However, if my guess is right (3200#) you may want to bite the bullet and get the correct tires. Beats having a blow-out.....:eyecrazy:

Do you use a WDH???

WolfPack

I don't use a WDH i do use a sway control bar which helps out with the sway. the stuff in my trunk wiegh in at 165 lbs and the max load for the trunk is 800 lbs so i am ok there. my 2003 ford Expedition is set up for towing and its has 7,000 lbs gross weight so i am ok there. i am going to tow it to work and see how it does its about 25 miles to work. do you think having them balanced well help ??

The only thing that will "Help" is if they are not over-loaded. You won't know that until you get the trailer weighed.

The 2 biggest contributers to tire failure is over-loading and under inflation.

The reason that I asked about the WDH was because that would add additional weight and shock loading to the trailer tires......not good in this case.

Your old tires capacity is 3,220 pounds.

Your new tires can hold 2,720lbs, which is 500 pounds less.

You stated you have only 165 lbs in your front trunk, which takes off tongue weight and adds it to the axle. (by the way, adding some stuff to your front trunk will help with your sway problem - front trunk PU's NEED stuff in the trunk to trail correctly!)

Like wavery said, if you decide to keep them proper inflation is critical. I'll bet you'll be surprised what your camper actually weighs, and I'll bet it's at or over 2,700 lbs.

I always have my trailer tires balanced.

I personally wouldn't have gone with a lighter duty tire. My family's safety isn't worth the cost of two trailer tires.

Go with your gut feeling that made you post this question = that you're uneasy with lighter duty tires, and get the correct load rating.
