First a tent, then pup, and now (gasp!) a hybrid

I found PUT in 2001 and at that time I was a tenter and wannabe pup owner.  Even went to the PUT rally in Townsend in my tent.  Fast-forward a few years and two pop-ups - and now, a hybrid!

First trip in the "new to us" hybrid was wonderful!  We camped with a large group of friends (18 sites and I think about 60 people) at a nearby state park, and had a blast.  5 of us had "new" campers, so there was a lot of touring going on.  I still can't decide what I like best about the hybrid:  increased space, hot water, or an on-board potty.  :)  Only "issue" was a little rain which revealed a little leak.  Ugh.  It think it's an easy fix - it was leaking in where the antenna (which we will never use) cranks up.  Sounds like a little caulk will seal that up.  Naturally, I was sleeping directly under that leak.  Otherwise, a great trip!  I'm looking forward to logging a bunch of nights camping this year.

WOW Jan! Congrats on the new camper!  Maybe I can get a tour this year too.

Well Jan congratulations on the (new to you) hybrid. Sounds like you're right, that leak should be an easy fix with a little caulking. I hope you have a wonderful season of camping in 2010 and don't forget to take plenty of pictures and let us all know how much fun you're having.

Happy camping...

Congrats on the new camper!

You will need to determine if the leak is coming in from around the base of the antenna or through the middle or the antenna.

Caulking may stop a leak from the base but if it's leaking in through the antenna itself, check with the antenna manufacturer to see if there is a replaceable seal.

Congrats on the hybrid Jan.

Let me see, I think I have two good memories of you. One of you climbing out of your tent in Townsend and mailing your coffee pot hangar back when you forgot it in PA.  You shouldn't need the hangar now.

Enjoy the hybrid, next it will be a tt. :)

Marcy - I hope you do get a tour this year.  It's been too long since we've camped together.  That goes for Gene, too.  (and a whole lot of other folks I miss camping with).

Wavery, the water was coming in around the perimeter of the plastic casing (or whatever that would be called) where the antenna crank is on the ceiling of the camper.  It also was just a drip - no major "floods" or anything and there was a lot of rain that night.  Fortunately we have a dry week in the forecast so we should be ok until I have a chance to get a closer look at that area.  I'm not a tall person, so I'll be WAY up there on that ladder.  Yippee.  If it's not the easy fix, I'll be posting again asking for ideas.

You all wouldn't believe the stupid questions I have.  This used hybrid came with zero owner's manuals.  And, Forest River will send me a generic manual for only (!) $20.  So, we are slowly figuring it all out by searching the 'net or asking questions.  I'm still debating on whether I should just look for a RV's for Dummies type of book.

Congrats Jan, Seems like just yesterday you were tenting under the bunk of my PopUp.

Since I no longer have a camper, you might have to return the favor. :D

Jan I am glad you had a great trip and enjoy your new camper.  Did your dad make the "bumpers" for your medicine cabinet?

cyclone

Jeff!!!  Haven't seen you around in like - forever!  I would gladly let you camp next to me again.

Tracy - Dad didn't have to.  We already had an edge there to hold things in the medicine cabinet.  Might need to consider some of those rods for the kitchen cabinets, though, to keep that stuff in place.

WOW, Jeff.  From what rock did you crawl out from under?  Been a long time.
Miss your wit from when we were on chat.

Jeffrey

Congrats on your new camper. As you, I also went from one form of camping to the other. In my adult life, started out in tents back in 2002, went to Pop Ups, and now a hardsided, standard build, travel trailer.

Good luck with the new camper.

Have a good one.

Wonder if we can get any of the rest of the old gang to join us :D
