Anyone have a Ipad yet ?? do you like.Need a new one for the wife and not sure to get with the wifi or wait until later and get the one with wi-fi / mi-fi or just buy a netbook and change cellphone for a mi-fi equipt unit. Big differance in cost.

Any suggestions ??

Hi Mike,

That's a big decision. I'm a long time Windows user. I've used a couple of Apple computers over the years and they have all worked great. Have a couple of iPods now and we'd probably switch to the iPhone except for our contract with T-Mobile. But since this company uses Windows PCs we took the easy way and stuck with Windows at home too.

This was a topic of conversation at work the past few months as we have several employees that have everything Apple except their work computers. (We are 100% Windows-based.) I know one manager bought an iPad as soon as the store opened,  but he's out of the office this week. I'll be speaking to him about his early experiences as soon as he's back.

Until then, here is a flow chart I ran across that may help you decide.:sombraro:

You might want to wait and check out Lori's Ipad at Santee........I KNOW (without a doubt) that she was one of the 1st one's in line at Best Buy......:p

One of my tenants has one. She said that it won't do anything that her Itouch won't do, it's just bigger.

I bought it last night, just adding somethings to it, pic, music etc. then shipping it up there. Really nice and compact and with more zip than my Toshiba laptop.

And a good bit more expensive.

iPod Touch 64GB -- $399
iPad 64GB -- $699 or $829 with 3G

The Gateway Netbook is looking like a nice alternative.

The Itouch is not 3G, so if you get the IPAD; bad name; with WIFI and 3G you don't have to find WIFI hot spots - like Smithwoods - plus the IPAD is so much easier to read IBooks, etc than the Itouch. Also the IPAD has a much easier keyboard to use for word processing and e-mail.

So there are a few things - with the much larger viewing screen. We don't have one yet, but we do have IPhones and netbooks - and they're great, but I've got to check out the IPad in person. If you buy any computer products I recommend Costco - if anything goes wrong in two years and you have the receipt - just take it back no questions asked and get a new one. At other stores you have to pay $$$ to get that warranty. Just my two cents.

For us right now it was the way togo, 10.1" screen, atom N450 processor ( better than the N270 out there, longer battery life)250G HD, 1G mem etc.etc.etc. I actualy really like this netbook except it came with Windows7 starter which i upgraded to 7 home premium. I'm sure Toni will be happy with it. :M

Plus I really liked the price 1/2 of the least inexpensive Ipad.

We have two HP netbooks and the batteries will last 6-8 hours and we love ours. Also at Costco we bought an HP DVD/CD external drive. Enjoy your netbook - we love ours.

Yes that would be the next purchase, Toni likes towatch DVD's that way she has  the little one, but without the optical built in it's strange.

The other option would be to buy an external hard drive and put your movies on the hard drive. No need for a portable DVD player. And depending on the size of the hard drive you can probably get about 50 movies. I saw one at Costco, the pocket sized external hard drive from western digital 500 gb for about $99.

...........:)..............Like that price, need to go by there and check it out, but I did see a external dvd/cd drive for $79 at Fry's.

But then the Idea behind a inexpensive setup would be blowen out the door and I might as well send her my Tosihba Satellite and let her use it but it's still to large for whats she needs.

I got a 1,000 gb external HD at Fries for $99 about a year ago. I use it for storing security camera video. I can store 30 days of video from 16 cameras on that thing.

I'm a little  surprised that they aren't making 10K gb HDs for $99 by now.:p
