If you have questions or suggestions about the board, please post them in the How To... Forum.  It will be a lot easier for us to find them there.

Here are some ideas to try to make things easier for everyone.

 [ul]

  • Try to use a specific subject title. This will help people decide which posts to read.

  •
  • Please keep the post on topic for the forum it is being posted in. By posting in the appropriate forum, you will receive a greater number of interested people reading and answering the post.

  •
  • Try to limit your post to single specific questions about the subject you are posting on unless the questions are closely related. If necessary, start multiple threads for the different questions you have.  For example, asking about types of heaters in the same thread you are asking opinions about a specific brand of pop up is going to make it difficult for readers to keep up with what people are commenting on.  Additionally, you are not as likely to have as many responses since the topic has changed on the thread.

  •
  • When responding to a thread, try not to ask new off topic questions within that thread, they are less likely to be viewed and answered by the greatest number of people.

  •
  • When posting in the regional campground area include the state name or abbreviation in the title of your thread.  It will make it much easier for people scanning the topics to decide which ones to read.

  •
  • Don t repeat your questions.  Please don t post the same question multiple times to get peoples attention or post the same question in multiple forums.

  •
  • Keep your profile up to date.  It helps other members when reading your posts to see your location.  You don t have to list a specific city, but knowing the state does help.

  •  [/ul]

Politeness
All of us at PUT want a casual atmosphere, where we all get together to discuss features, tricks, stories, and problems with our pop up campers in a relaxed, safe environment. Please try to behave like civilized people would act when gathered around the campfire trading stories, even though we can t see each other. Disagreements and differences of opinions are of course welcome, but personal attacks, vindictive remarks, strong profanity, and other insulting behaviors are not welcome. Otherwise, you will drive off many of the people who could help us out.  Some specific rules are listed at the end of this document.

Acronyms Used on The Forum (and elsewhere)
AFAIK - As far as I know
 BTW - By the way
 DH/DW ? Dear Husband/Dear Wife
FWIW - For what it s worth
IIRC - If I recall correctly
IMHO - In my humble opinion
 LOL - Laughing out loud
OT - Off topic, (Try the Chit Chat Forum)
OTOH - On the other hand
OTA - Off the air, Over the air, or Over the Antenna
 PU ? Pop Up
 PUT ? Pop Up Times
ROTFLMAO - rolling on the floor laughing my *** off
 TV ? Tow vehicle
YMMV - Your mileage may vary

 Don t repeat your questions
Please, please, please don t post the same question more than once within 24 hours. Especially don t start a new topic for your question if an existing topic will do. And, if you do start a new topic, please, please, please, don t also post the question in another thread. It isn t necessary. Trust me.

 PLEASE DON T SHOUT!
Typing in all caps is called SHOUTING on-line. It is harder to read, and detracts from the message you re trying to convey.

How do I reply to another person s post?
At the top and bottom of the screen are links to ?Post Reply?.  Clicking on either one of these will open a text box to allow you to reply.

How do I reply to another person s post quoting them?
Once the text box is open for you to type a reply, look for the button titled ?Quote the original message?.  Clicking on this will add the original message to you new one.

How do I delete one of my posts

An icon should appear on the top of all of your own posts (except for the first post in a thread) that looks like a sheet of paper with a red X on it.  Clicking on this will delete that single post.

Members can not delete the first post in a thread, this still has to be done by a moderator.

Sending Questions Directly to Forum Participants by Email or Private Message
As long as an e-mail address has not been hidden by the member, you can click on either the members name or the ?Mail? icon in one of their posts to send them an e-mail.

However, please do not send questions of general interest directly to participants. Especially, do not send the question privately and then post it. The first deprives the community of the benefit of your question and its answer. The second is simply a waste of the email recipient s time.

How do I search the forum?
It is recommended that forum users do a search before posting a new thread. Chances are good that your problem has been discussed in a previous thread.

In the upper right hand corner of the screen is the ?Search? button. You can search by keywords or username (partial or exact). Searches can then be restricted to one forum or all open forums. You can also restrict searches to titles only or by date.

 Specific Rules
Well, every community has to have some rules that are set in stone.  These are ours. Violations of any specific rule will cause the post to be removed without notice.  Repeated violations will cause the offending member to have their posting privileges suspended or revoked.  Don?t argue with a moderator on the board.  Take any dispute off the board to e-mail.

 1)   Keep it clean. Topics of a sexual nature (including innuendo) are not allowed.
 2)   Keep it relevant to pop up camping in all forums except the Campfire area
 3)   It s OK to criticize a product, manufacturer, campground or Pop UP Times. Just be honest and fair to all parties involved, including your fellow board readers.
 4)   NO name-calling - like TROLL!
 5)   Accept the fact that this board is and will always be moderated. But we ll go easy on the delete buttons unless the above rules are ignored.
 6)   No gun topics.
 7)   Do not use the forum for commercial purposes.  Do not use members e-mail accounts to send unsolicited ?spam? e-mail.  Do not use the forums to advertise your business.  Contact Dave if you want to advertise with PUT.

moderator1I m figuring out the little icons by trial and error, but it would be nice to have a place that explains what each of them does.

I m talking about the icons next to the poster s names and the icons in the forum messages themselves.

moderator1I can t seem to default to " Tree Style"  when opening a thread.  I have changed my profile several times. Upon opening a thread, I have to click on Tree Style to see any replies to the original message.  When I ve read them all I have to  Back  click twice -- once to the " Flat Style"  original post and again to the main topic.

 I m frustrated.
