Going to try and do some beach camping in Texas this spring - I ve never taken the Popup to the beach - anything special I need to prepare for?  Anyone ever stay at the " On The Beach RV Park"  in Port Aransas?

lkareleeJust to kick back, enjoy the beach.  Bring a good broom for sweeping out the PU, keep shoes outside, and make sure you have a mat or rug of some kind to keep the sand down.  Beach camping is great.  We haven t been to Texas beaches, but the SC beaches are nice.  One of our favorite campgrounds is on the beach and we always try to get a campsite that is not RIGHT on the beach (too much wind to have a campfire) and not too far from the beach (then there is not enough breeze to keep the mosquitos down).

lkareleeTried beach camping once... too much grit for my tastes but lots of folks like it just fine. One thing to remember is to throughly spray you camper, wheels, and frame with fresh water after the trip so the salt air doesn t start rust.
Also check out Goose Island S.P. It is right down the road from Port A. near Rockport TX. It s a nice park with a choice of oak tree camp areas or beach spots.
 Have fun![:D]

lkareleeExtra long tent stakes for your awning, or anything else you use tent stakes for.  The  broom, mat, and being a little off of the beach beach are all good ideas from gamecock.  Having an outside shower or even a bucket of water to wash sand off of feet and legs is also good to have.  Most of all have fun.

The Memory Maker

lkareleeWe have done a good amount of camping along the California coast. One of our main objectives is to always swing the pop up around so the entrance door faces the ocean.Sometimes that means arriving early at the campground to have the first choice of preferred sites. But if we are successful, this set-up gives us the feeling of having a beachfront condo[:)]

lkareleeHope you have a great time.  I addition to the other items folks have mentioned, bring a board or commercial product to put under your stabilizers.  You need the extra surface area so the stabilizers can properly support your trailer on soft sand.

lkareleetlhdoc mentioned one important thing that I forgot..... the bucket of water by the door of the camper is a good way to keep the sand down (in the camper).

van castle

lkareleeWe like riding our bikes on the beach and watching others flying their colorful kites. Be sure to check out the many sea food shops. Texas-size Gulf Coast shrimp are wonderful!
Enjoy the locals and the company of the many Winter Texans you ll meet along the coast. We know you ll want to come back next year.

lkareleeDH and I have some friends who used to live on the island of Port " A" , right on the beach.  Staying with them is among our best vacation memories.  We were able to go sea fishing for free, so I don t know what they charge out there, but there are quite a few people that you can hire to take you out on the ocean if you d like to do that.  Corpus Christi has a nice aquarium, and a bird sanctuary, although we ve never been to the latter.

Port Aransas is lots of fun, and a great place to find shark teeth, so keep looking down!  [:)]  Have a great time, and let us know how the campsite is!
