 How does this affect you?

This morning, I noticed several unattended bags at a station that my train pulled though.  I immediately called the MBTA police (I didn t have the Amtrak #...it s their station) and reported it.

The Orange Level had an impact in my decision.

BTW...some people are STUPID when it comes to this stuff.  Don t leave your bags unattended in a public place.  They stick out like a sore thumb.

CamperrooI m a vendor, and I was working yesterday in a local Wal-Mart when a customer beside me was looking at an empty shelf.  She said, " I guess everyone is taking them up on their advice."   I asked her what she meant.  She said it was recommended that people use duct tape to tape up all their vents, etc in their houses and the duct tape was out of stock.  I laughed and told her I didn t think duct tape was gonna save me if there was a terrorist attack.  Oops - I think she may have been there to buy duct tape for that reason too, because she smiled funny and walked off.
I can t say I m being any more cautious than usual right now, although possibly a bit more alert.  I just don t really see what I can do against biological or chemical warfare other than trust in the Man Upstairs.

CamperrooThe duct tape and plastic sheeting is supposedly flying off the shelves around here. IF there were to be a biological/chemical attack, it s not going to help you, much. There are just way too many openings in a house to completely seal up. I for one WILL NOT live my life that way. I am going, and will continue, to go about my business as usual. If I see something like A-B did, yes I will report it.

I really can t believe they even suggested everyone do that. Unless they are just trying to keep everyone busy doing something, and let us know how serious they are. Are they just trying to scare everyone into getting on board with the war?

If someone lives in a older house (like us) the plastic over the windows would hardly stop anything. There are so many leaks in older houses there is no way to seal them. Unless they put a bag over the whole house, then don t turn on your furnace or anything else inside.

On the news here they showed the recomendation, then brought on experts telling everyone not to do it.

CamperrooMot of our camping stuff is in the basement, so that s about all we ve done to prepare. There s too much conflicting information out there, so we ve decided to watch. listen and wait.

rednekrubbrduck

CamperrooI too couldn t believe he said that about the plastic sheeting and duct tape.  Kind of reminded me of the old tuck, duck, and cover safety videos from way back when we first had atomic and nuclear bombs.  DW said a lot of people she works with are all starting to panic cause they heard now it s a 6 week supply of food on hand now.  She s worried also.  I told her if something happens...we re gonna hook up the PU and head to the lake.

Don t know..but according to my other post on the other thread...somewhere where Lori can dress like a " native gal"  and serve me beer with lil umbrellaas in them (don t worry...I de return the favor).  With all that s going on...I think we all need a big ole group hug.

rednekrubbrduckThat hug made me feel better!  I agree that we can t live in fear and I do try to keep the news away from the kids as much as possible.  I feel bad that my kids can t have the same freedom that I had when I was a kid.  I walked or rode my bike or took the bus everywhere.  I m afraid to let them go more than a block away alone now.  Maybe that s one of the things I like about camping the most.  A chance to get away, granted you can t let your guard down but you can get away from crime & traffic; your kids can explore a little and have less chance of getting hit by a car while outside playing, etc.

I think I need to go camping!

Camperroo

iwantapopupI agree, maybe we should all just go camping...can t seal up our popups exactly...but we could have an " orange"  themed rally!![:D]

bikolee

rednekrubbrduckYou realize folks, that by changing the way you do things, living in fear, etc. is exactly what they want.  Terrorism doesn t necessarily mean to attack and kill or harm. It s merely the act of terror.  To make you afraid to live your life the way you want or are used to. That is what I believe is the root of all this against us. Thay are simply jealous that we have the freedoms that we have.

startx

rednekrubbrduckExactly Bill, as long as everyone is running around getting stuff to baricade themselves into their homes, the terrorists are winning.  I m not doing that stuff, cause honestly I m not too sure it would help much anyway, and also, if I m going to die in a terrorist attack, at least I want to die free, not a prisoner of fear in my own home.

MommaMia

rednekrubbrduckThis may be a silly question but... aren t the " vents"  in ones house there for a purpose?.... like to afford ventilation...as in let out the old, potentially HARMFUL build up of noxious emisions from things such as furnaces and such (IOW carbon monoxide) and high levels of carbon dioxide and circulate in fresh air.  I don t think that duct tape and plastic are going to do so much to keep out whatever  " toxic/biological weapons"  as it will keep in the stuff that seems, to me, to pose the greater threat.  I wonder how many people may die suffocating from carbon monoxide poisoning inside their " safe houses" .  Don t laugh... hundreds die each year and their house aren t sealed up.

Who started all this duct tape stuff?  Marketers for Duct tape sales?

Popupnut

rednekrubbrduckSince camping season is out in the North East - the duct tape sales have dropped dramatically - thus - a smart, on his toes duct tape salesman thought up this clever idea.....he may also have his interest in the plastic sheeting division.  I dunno....
I think we should organize a campin posse and find this guy - duct tape him to a tree until duck hunting season....wabbit season.....whatever...
Just a wee bit of humor folks.[:D]
