How s  this for being off topic??

My 11 year old DD told me tonight that she wants different things in the lunch she takes to school.  This surprised me seeing as she has taken the same things for two years without a complaint.  So, what do you all put in your kids lunches?  I won t say more than she s a pickey eater.

 Thanks in advance,

 Tena

springer02If she s 11, she should be packing her own lunch.

My 6 year old son makes his own lunch every evening.
Usually consists of a sandwich made from either plain bread, or a bagel.
filled with whatever he can find, cheese, meat, or some type of spread.
and usually a snack, such as a string cheese, or yogurt,
 and a drink.

Take her with you next time you are shopping and let her choose what she will be making for herself

springer02DS has the choice of packing or buying lunch.  If he packs he makes his own lunch, although he knows it can t be filled with junk.  I have the right to swap items on him.[:)]

springer02I made my kids eat their lunch in the cafeteria, of course, their Grandma was head cook![:)]
That was in elementary school, in high school, they took a piece of fruit and a protein/snack bar. (They re girls, and were always " on a diet" )

springer02Peanut butter and Honey sandwiches (sometimes on wheat bread, sometimes on peanut butter flavored rice cakes),  cheese sandwiches, cold pizza or cold mac and cheese are the main part.  Then either broccoli and dip, or baby carrots.  A banana or grapes.  And a surprise snack (fruit rollup/gushers, granola bar, cookies, crackers).  To drink milk, orange juice or grape juice in the thermos.

My 6 yr old DS often surprises me by actually saving the snack for last - sometimes the snack makes it home if he runs out of time to eat.

springer02Beer and Pizza.  Oh wait..that was me.  He eats at home being he s still in kindergarten, but as picky as he is..not, don t think it ll be much of a problem.

springer02I agree with 6Quigs.  An 11 year old should be old enough to make their own lunch.  I also think it would be a great idea to take her shopping with you next time you go.  She can pick out food items that she would like and you will be there to ensure that what she selects is a " healthy"  choice.

I feel very strongly about having a good, balanced, healthy diet and taking vitamins.  Even though I don t have any children, I think its never to early to start educating kids on how to eat sensibly and healthy.

I pack a lunch to take to work every day myself (I don t care for fast food....unless its Subway).  I usually have a bagel sandwich with turkey (with either some cream cheese OR lettuce and tomato w/ a little mustard), a handful of crackers (I like wheat thins, triscuits, or sometimes....cheese nips) and then a piece of fruit, some yogurt, or a Jello pack.... As a drink, I usually go for milk or a diet soda (my weakness has always been soda).

Your DD might just enjoy the freedom to select what she eats in her lunch and having to make it herself is a very responsible thing for her to do.

springer02[;)] i think she has just begun to actually pay attention to what is in the OTHER girls` lunches!!! [:D]

My oldest daughter pulled the same stunt on me when I was still packing her lunch - so one day - being the vindictive sneaky mother that I am - I threw a raw potato in her lunch bag - I also made her a sandwich but she was VERY surprised and thought it was the funniest thing she had ever seen!!!  Since then (3rd grade), she has been making her own lunch - she is now in High school and is in charge of feeding herself during the day.
My 6 yr old son still has the luxury of me making his lunch - because if it was up to him he would bring nothing but junk - but I like the idea of training him on sandwich making...This could be good!!!
Have some fun with it and don t ever forget your sense of humor!!! [:D]
