bearbaitAlmost all of our trips are within an hour of home.  We usually take one longer, 200 mile or so trip.  So, it shouldn t have a big impact on us.  But gees, the cost of heating oil until this frigid winter is over is killing me.

rednekrubbrduck

bearbaitOur favorite CG is only 10-20 miles (but a whole other world) away, so gas prices won t curtail our plans.

bearbaitWe aren t taking trips any farther than a 150 mile radius from home this year. This is due to gas prices, plus we want to still get some more work done on the house. So vacation weeks will be 4-5 night trips and then a day or two on home projects.

Turn Key

bearbaitCan t see it changing our camping plans.  We are going to put the new and (much) bigger truck on the " back burner"  for a while.

bearbaitWhen you drive 3 vehicles with 25 gal and larger fuel tanks, you NEVER look at the total.  Especially when one of them is diesel and that is now $1.79-1.83/gal.  One of them runs on Premium ($1.73), and one of them can get 15 mpg...

No, it won t impact us YET.

chasd60

bearbaitI don t think it will have a big impact on my camping trips with the camper. I had already planned a 7000 mile trip with my little commuter car and a tent.

The key to my savings is the fact that I no longer drive my truck the 500+ miles per week back and forth to work.

chasd60The thought of gas prices rising has me a little worried.  I have a longer commute to work now but did buy a new 4 cyl car to get more mpg.  We have 3 camping trips planned out of state and we live on a tight budget.  We ll just have to cut corners somewhere else to pay for the gas.  If it keeps going up, we ll just plan the rest of our trips close to home.  We re up to $1.69/gal in St. Louis.

bearbaitWon t make a darn bit of difference.
And if one does the math, it won t hurt THAT much.
We re going to do a trip this summer that estimates out at 1700 miles.
Well divide that by the average tow milage of our van at 17mpg.
Fortunately that makes the math really easy, we ll use 100 gallons of fuel.

Last time we did the trip fuel costs averaged $1.38 or $138.00 bucks spent on gas.
Lets take that up to $1.90 and spend $190 for fuel.
Well, for a 12 day trip (we stay in one place for 7 of those), I don t think an extra $52 dollars is all that much. With a family of four it s pretty easy to find that money somewhere else. Like saying no to McD s for on the road lunches and make sandwiches in a town park along the way (which we do all the time anyway but you get the point.)

I bet I can find a way to save an extra $200 between now and our first trip.

chasd60You know, my last post may have sounded a bit crass to those on an even tighter budget than my own. And I apologize if I offended anyone.

chasd60Gas prices won t keep us from traveling, it s still a cheaper vacation to drive and camp, than fly and hotel it.

chasd60It won t change our plans. And it won t change my plan to get a new TV if needed. My Dakota has over 140K miles on it. If it goes, then bring on the Silverado ext cab LT Z71. It s bigger, has more power, and gets better mileage.

bearbaitI am going to have to put the brakes on my DW.  She is camping crazy.  She has 4 long trips planned this summer.  I gave up the GMC Denali for the Acura MDX.  But, I really don t  think this is going to save me money.  At least the Denali took the regular unleaded, where the Acura takes the good stuff 91 and above.  However, it does get a few gallons more per mile.

sure2rain

chasd60We have 4 trips planned. All to our favorite SP which is about 50 miles away. One can t beat the price of camping as compared to other vacations. Price of gas will affect some non-camping ventures so I hope I wasn t being counted on to spur the economy on.

chasd60Not to sound like a rich person either, but the extra amount on gas is certainly felt, but not a show-stopper in the big scheme of things.

chasd60I heard on the radio today gas may go up to $2.10 as an average by april.I still
dont think it will stop me.But it may stop my farther-inlaw he has a 35  motor home thats a big tank to fill
