Howdy all, I m new to this forum.   First off I d like to start out and say how nice this forum is and how nice the people in here seem.  I m from southeast missouri, around here is a campers oasis.  We have nice rivers, springs, hills, you name it.  I just got a real good deal on this 82 starcraft.  Not much was wrong with it, but everything is original so it needs a little attention.  I m redoing the counter top, repainting the gas cookstove.  I m adding a quick-connect lp gas fitting inside the camper so I can plug my Mr.buddy heater into.   Plus I m going to install my 2-meter ham in it also (mostly for emergency reasons, but for play too ;)  Also at the rear of the camper is a tube type storage compartment where you used to store the poles for the awning.  The previous owner when installing cut the tube in half when they installed the ac (which is a window unit bumper level with the back.  I m planning on putting the other disconnect in the old cover semi recessed so I can plug up a gas grill, or my fish cooker.

Also in the works is a new canvas, hopefully uncle sam will give some hard earned bucks back.  I don t at the present time have an awning.  I m looking at a few kinda like some, but haven t made up my mind.  If anyone has any suggestions I ll take em :)

Also I ve been reading alot about sway bars.   It s got me thinking if I need one or not.  I drive a 98 ford explorer.  If anyone has any input here give me a shout.

I ll try to start some sort of photo journal of this restore project here, If anyone s interested in keeping up just subscribe to this and I ll keep it updated.

 Bye for now,

kc0jaeHiya kc0jae, and Welcome!!! It will be neat to watch your trailer blossom in the coming months. Before you go out and buy a sway bar, give Starcraft a call and make sure they say it s ok to use one on your year and model trailer.

I ll leave the actual awning input to those who have aftermarket awnings. Mine s a Coleman original, but I ve heard good things about Carefree awnings.

Don t be shy, just pull up a chair, toss another chunk of wood on the fire, and chime in with the rest of us.

 Again, Welcome!

kc0jaeHi all!  I haven t got pics up yet, it s been rainy here, pictures turned out bad in low light.  Also it s pretty cold, and I don t have a garage to work on the camper.  I m still picking up parts one by one.  I plan to get a nice sunny warm weekend 50 - 60 s so I can get goin on it.

Thanks Ab for the advice.  I think before I get all hyped up on getting a sway bar, the canvas replacement and the awning are gonna come first.   Logs on the fire now though [:D]

also if anyone is from from SE Missouri feel free to give me a shout.

Stay Tuned there is alot to come,

 kc0jaeHi kcojae!

I m from St. Louis, not exactly southern mo but thought I d say hi!  We restored an 82 Palmonio Colt last year and DH made an awning although it needs some tweaking.  We used a small trap and he made it roll inside a piece of pvc pipe.  We had 2 poles to use to hold it up and he mounted them so they fit on the lifter bars.  Worked great but we had alot of wind the first time, the thing was blowing a bit.  I figure we need to still ground it down.  We also had a bit of a problem rolling it back up, not sure if it ripped but I think it wanted to.  I think I m going to try to buy a big piece of canvas and make one and let him install it on his original design.

I know what you mean about the weather not co-operating and not having a garage to work in.  I m still waiting for the weather to stay nice for a little bit so we can open ours up and finish some work before we go camping next month.

We have a group, MAPPUC, we d love to have you join us camping sometime.  We have a trip planned to Branson in June.

Looking forward to seeing your pics, it s great to get ideas from others.

Oops, I forgot there is a pic of our awning on our webpage!
