Just a question?  How many of your sold or traded your pop-up only to miss it like crazy and had to go back?  This happened to me.  We had the 244B Jayco travel trailer ( it was very nice)  but, all I wanted was my pop-up.

Mahaffey-FamilyI m afraid that will happen to me, that s why I m putting off going to a TT until I get close to retirement!

Mahaffey-FamilyI upgraded from a Pop-up to a little cabin. Since my camping is always on the lake, same lot, same place everytime I go I think the cabin is the way to go. I dont have to worry about canvas rot, lift systems breaking down, etc. I would love to have another Pop-up sometime in the future for when I decide to take wandering camping trips. But for right now, I love the cabin.

P.S. I started in this forum because I had a pop-up, I stayed because I am a camper (or laker)!!

They have cabins at R-J Ranch.  Are you going to the Rally?

Wish I could go to a rally. They sound really fun and would be great meeting everyone. BUT, since I have just started with a new agency and I got jipped out of nearly 3 grand from the last agency I don t think I will be doing much traveling this year.

Mahaffey-FamilyI had been thinking this very thought this week.  We just purchased our hybrid and won t be able to use it for a couple of months.  I already miss my pop up.  I think though the way we will be camping now will be different and very enjoyable.  I m still unsure about packing and food preperation, it seems it will be come easier.  I will miss having all the windows down and beng able to see a 365  view.  But I am looking forward to seeing how exciting my kids will be to sleep in their bunks and so much more.

Mahaffey-FamilyWe bought a beautiful TT and love it alot, but it s kept on a seasonal site...too big to be towing around town (Springdale 372 TBXL).  Realized we missed our popup for quick trips, so our friends we sold it to, let us take it when we need to as they know how careful we were with it.  Right now I m hoping to buy a nice Forest River popup we saw at the show, with dinette slide and shower/toilet (got a bit spoiled by the conveniences of the TT!![:D]).  We ll use that when we re traveling and vacationing.   Though when retirement comes....it all gets traded in for a nice, comfy Class A so we can hit the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:)]  (well one of the kids will probably want the popup!!)

Mahaffey-FamilyWe use to have a travel trailer.  We parked it on our own property, and it actually sat there for about 15 yrs.   We loved it, because we didn t have to do anything, just go.   It was not new when we got it, and we furnished it with lots of garage sale bedding and towels and dishes, pots and pans.   On Friday aft. if DH got home early and said he didn t have to work on sat. we could just throw some clothes in a bag and grab some stuff for the cooler and be there in a few hours.  However, there were many times when we thought about how nice it would be to camp somewhere else for a change.  When the old trailer finally started to go to pieces, we started traveling more, and camping in tents, etc.   Someone who needed to move their popup out of their driveway one winter offered to let us borrow it for a trip to FLA, and we were hooked.   Before too long we had one of our own.      But now, the strange things is, we love it for being able to go anywhere we want with it, but really miss the freedom to just take off with no packing or advance planning.   We can t really leave the popup on the property without taking a chance on vandalism or theft.    Maybe one of these days we ll get another old trailer to set up there.   Then we ll really have the best of both worlds!

Mahaffey-FamilyI had a TT about 4 years ago that was so old, I couldn t find a VIN# or a brand or anything on it. It was pretty cool though. It had a (window) air conditioner, stove, sink, wardrobe, dinette, and a small bunk. I like the PU better. More room, and easier to tow.

I didn t know much about weights, etc at the time. I had an S10 with the 4.3L V6. A great engine, and I miss it, but it had a 3.08 rear-end.

Translation: Tow rated for 300 tongue weight, 3000 towing weight. I had a Class II hitch on the truck, which I thought was plenty. I wondered why the drawbar sagged when hooked up to the TT. Now I know. It was WAAAY overloaded. I know that thing weighed more than 3000 pounds, and I carried very little with me. It was just me and the dog.

I was one of those people we now either laugh at (not really), or pray they make it to their destination. I know somebody saw me pulling a small TT with a Class II hitch and shook their head at me.

Glad I know better now, thanks to PUT and its board members.
