Gamecock Camper

Ok, I went today.  They really did not have a bunch in terms of pop-up campers.  They did have a brand I haven t seen before called AERO.  They looked ok.  There were also some very nice hybrids there.  The prices were a little more aggressive than in other years, so anyone looking for a camper can probably get a really good deal.  I did get a few ideas for mods to my Rockwood, so it was still worth the trip.

The biggest kick I got was listening to the radio advertisement for the RV show.  It boasted that there is everything from start-up campers like pop-up campers to the big motorhomes.   START-UP CAMPERS?????  If I am happy, no... let me rephrase that..... If I am very happy with my pop-up camper, does that mean that I will still need to trade " up"  to a real camper (per the ad)???

birol

Gamecock CamperYour heard the man, you " start up camper"  owner you ! Sell it at once and get a real camper, like a 42  Motorhome, with a 8,000 Horsepower diesel and twin generators and triple ac s and 4 slideouts.

Sheees, I would love to have one of those start up campers, if they are so startup why don t they give me one free ? it is a start up camper after all !

Gamecock Camper

Gamecock Camperbirol, all the " REAL"  campers were not to my liking.  They also had price tags from 12K to over 500K.

birol

Gamecock CamperI also like the open viewness of the PU s a lot !

I think Aero and Aerolite are one and the same.  Parent company is Thor Industries.  Long View RV has one of the larger lots in these parts and they carry the Aerolite.

My favorite product line from Thor Industries is Airstream.  They bring back memories of my youth and seeing convoys of Airstreams  being towed to exotic locations.

All in all I have to agree with Birol, I like the openess of the popups.

Gamecock CamperDitto to the openess factor!
My SIL has a 26 ft TT and keeps every window covered with shades. She can t even see where she is camping! She might as well be in her driveway ftm. Talk about clostrophobic!!
I love to lay in bed and look out right into the trees and landscape. It feels more like outdoors.

Gamecock Camper

Gamecock CamperI m with you on that.  I like the big beds and big windows on pop-up campers.  That is something that the " start-up"  campers have that you don t seem to get when you " upgrade"  to a $500,000 motorhome.

slowpez

Gamecock CamperDH and I went to the Columbia RV show yesterday.  It was the first time we had been inside an Airstream.  I have to admit, the three we looked at were all that the company promises and I would give up my PU in a skinny minute if they would give me one (or if I won the lottery.)
I have to admit, the biggest suprise was the height of the counter for the stove and sink in the Jayco.  We had never looked at them before and couldn t believe the difference between those we saw and the Coleman.  I don t think I could stand to work on a surface that low so am glad we got the Coleman.

Gamecock Camper

Gamecock Camperslowpez,  I saw the Airstream campers.  I remember two at the show.  One was the Bambi model (smaller).  The second was a larger Airstream with a modern looking interior with stainless steel and slick looking cabinets.  They both had good floorplans for their size.  Airstream is obviously very very proud of their products too (did you see the pricetags on those!!!)

slowpez

Gamecock CamperThat I did.  They were not as much as I thought though.  I think they featured the Bambi on HGTV s annual trek to the RV show and they started at $35,000.  There were three of them at the show.  We talked to the dealer who said we could have one for $30K.  Needless to say, we bought one for all the charter members here.  I suppose now Dave will ask us all to leave the group [;)].

Gamecock CamperWell, Looks like I didn t miss much by not going to the show in Columbia.  [&:]I was all fired up and ready to go last weekend, when a friend offered to let us use her ocean front condo in North Myrtle Beach for a long weekend free.  Like I was going to pass that up!  I only wanted to go to see if I could get some good deals on extra " toys" -Bal leveler, scissor jacks, sway control, etc.

I m w/ Gamecock Camper-Tell me I m in a starter camper?-DON T get me started!  I get sticker shock and go into convulsions just walking past the new motor homes.  Nope, I want to be able to camp AND eat, AND afford to do things while camping.  I ll stick w/ my PU where I can still open up all the windows and enjoy the nature we are there for, despite the diesel fumes and generator noise for the 40 ft. Airstream next door, blocking our view......[:D]

Don t get me wrong-I think they are awesome to look at, and like Slowpez, I would take on if GIVEN to me, but only then.  Like the Dixie Chicks, I like those " Wide Open Spaces" .... only with all the conveniences of the PU! [;)]  Anyway, thanks for making me NOT feel bad @ missing the RV Show!
