scpreacherswifeTPUC member here. Hey, Yellow Xterra! Welcome to PUT. Being from West Tennessee, I joined TPUC a week or so ago when I stumbled upon the site. I think that a lot of our PUT members should take a look at the TPUC site. It s really familiar in look (probably similar or same software) and the folks, after all, are nice southern folk. Most of them live in Middle and East Tennessee. They may be a little too Orange (as in University of Tennessee), but I don t usually hold a person s color against him/her. m

 Central Piedmont area.
A college town called Elon and the town has a University called Elon after the tall oaks that grow there.
I think I heard that ELON is greek for oak or something like that.
We camp at Myrtle Beach Travel Park in North Myrtle.
I was born in Columbia/ Ft.Jackson Army Hospital, SC.
I Have family that still live in and around Lake Murray, Newberry and some other small towns in that area.

scpreacherswifeNice to see so many " locals"  on the board.  We are from Columbia, SC also.  We have been pop-up camping now for about a year and have already influenced 3 of our friends to get pop-ups (working on a fourth family who is ready to start looking).   Our favorite campgrounds so far have been Hunting Island SP in the Beaufort, SC beach area and Davidson River CG in the NC mountain area.  Both are popular, but both have large beautiful sites and lots of pop-ups every time we go.  Life is good.

scpreacherswifeWe re in Tallahassee, Florida. This part of the state is known as " way south Georgia!"   We re closer to the Smokies than we are to Miami.

scpreacherswifeHey, If it s " south"  of something, it s southern![;)]
This board is great!  I m really glad to see so many other campers from our region.  I would love to make some Florida trips-especially Fort Wilderness w/ the kids. [8D] Maybe soon..

LOVE the NC/Tenn. area for camping.  And Slowpez, yep, that was me.  I m a waterfall freak and have gotten my family hooked too.  We also plan on making many camping trips to the Carowinds Campground in Charlotte, NC.  We have annual passes for 2003, but have never camped there.  (we only live an hour away, but hey, ANY excuse to PU is great!) Any suggestions @ the campground NCSunshine?

Gamecock Camper: I have friends who rent cabins in Hunting Island SP every year.  We wanted to camp there over Thangsgiving, but headed for the mountains instead.  Gotta try it there.  Also, never heard of the Davidson River CG in NC-Where is it?  Good stuff there huh?

HEY BYRD1-I only missed you by a few years @ Fort Jackson!!!  I m an Army brat-one of the last born @ the old hospital @ Fort Jackson in Cola.( 63).  Grew up In cola., Family  all in NC/Tenn area.  Even lived in Newberry 5 years!  Where do you camp?

Happy Camping or at least thinking @ it!  [:D]

scpreacherswifeWe live south of Atlanta and go camping quite a bit.  Nothing better than a campfire and a cold one.  We camp alot in the state parks since there are several that are within 2 hours of the house.  I like the woodsie feeling in the state parks.

 wssfetchscpreacherswife,

Davidson River is a beautiful National Forest campground just outside of Brevard, North Carolina.  The pluses far outweigh the minuses.   It has some of the largest most beautiful natural sites of any campground I ve been to.  There is a wide shallow river that has a walking trail beside it.  I ve seen people trout fishing there and we always take blow-up swim rings for the kids to float down the river.  It is only about 2 miles from Brevard, 2 miles from Looking Glass Falls, Sliding Rock and the Cradle of Forestry Discovery Center (with a discovery center and very nice trails).  The only minus is that the campground does not have hook-ups (nice, but not necessary for us).  There is water available throughout the campground.  It is a very popular campground that you almost always have to reserve through www.reserveamerica.com.

Hunting Island State Park is outside of Beaufort, SC on a barrier island.   This campground has both reservation sites and first come/first served sites.  There are hook-ups and decent bath houses.  The reservation sites are right on a natural (beautiful) beach.  Everytime we go there we see the wild mule deer who will come right up to you and eat bread or other food out of your hand.  There is a marsh trail within a short driving distance, a lighthouse you can climb within walking distance, a fishing pier and discovery center within driving distance, etc....   We are going here again March 7, 8, 9 with several families.  In the summer months I would definetely suggest reservations many weeks in advance as this is a popular campground for good reasons.  The non-reserved sites are good during the non-winter months, but the mosquitos are pretty bad in the summer.  The mosquitos are not bad in the reserved site area in the summer because of the beach breeze.

Anyway, thought you might be interested and I hope that this post does not make it more difficult to go to these campgrounds for our family, but I m glad to share it.
