"Spring Sunset" self service non-rally. June 10-13, 2004

We have reservations for 3 nights at site 76 in the Sunset campground on Union Valley Reservoir in the Crystal Basin Recreation Area between Placerville and Lake Tahoe.
Ice House road is steep - similar to the Hwy 50 crest to Tahoe or the New Priest Grade on the way to Yosemite.

This is a Forest Service campground and it is DRY CAMPING
- no hookups, but there are water spigots spread around the loop and pit toilets.
There is a Dump Station in a nearby loop but it would be a long hike with a tote.

Go to reserveamerica.com - Campground = sunset, State = CA.
Sites are chosen when reserved - we are in site 76.
Single sites are $15.00 a night and I think all the sites in the 62-95 loops will handle a popup.

Union Valley Reservoir is a good sized mountain lake with plenty of boaters - both fishing and water skiing.
There is a very nice, paved bike path around several miles of the lake shore and a nearby,
"semi-wilderness" waterfall that is a short car ride and 1/2 mile hike away.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds and if you choose to join us it may become one of your favorites too!

What exactly do you mean by "DRY'" camping?
1. The photo you attached is not very dry looking.
2. It could never mean that there would be no home brew provided.
3. That it will not rain over the weekend.
4. That there will be no puddles for my kids to play in.
5. That there are no hook ups.

We are hoping it is #5.

Seems to be the rage at NNC, the Wagonmaster-less Non-rally rallies.  It all began with the Negative Bouyancy - Anarchist Rally.  Long live anarchy!

1. Bassi falls is quite wet and lots of fun - NOT DRY
2. I will do my best to have HB on tap - NOT DRY
3. If I've read your posts correctly it has not and never will rain on your hybrid. :D
4. There is a VERY LARGE PUDDLE - AKA Union Valley Reservoir- NOT DRY
5. Is that your final answer?

Oops, pardon the interruption.
Continue on folks.  Nothing to see here.

Have fun, sorry we can't make it.

If you have any homebrew left over be sure to UPS it to me.

People might be put off because the Western Rally (Popping at Pismo) is two weeks later. I've been to that area a few times to fish, but have never camped there. I would like to commit but can't just yet.

Rod,

Dang, I sure do hate to miss out on some of that good ole home brew !!

We would go but we'll already be in So Cal at Doheny beach 9-13 of June. Then Big Sur. And, of course, Pismo. Oh, and then we start our vacation June 30th  :D .

do you know the regs on dogs there?  I'll go to the website and check it out.

We are having to kennel the pooches while we are in Mexico next month.
Wow what a $$$$$$$$$.
they will go camping with us if only by default.

We will be at Wolf Creek the previous weekend but the SIL is looking to visit pror to their move to Texas. We were thinking about Sunset.  Maybe kill 2 birds will 1 trip.

We take our dog up here all the time - need to be leashed or controlled but dogs are welcome!

Hi, We are new to NNC and just went on the Sugarloaf trip and saw that you were going to Sunset on Union Valley Res.  We haven't been there in years but thought we would join you.  Are you still going?  It looks like site #73 is available which is right next to #76.  We have 2 kids, DD is 11 and DS is 8.  We sure had a great time with everyone this weekend and looking forward to doing more with NNC.

OK...we're busted!  But the homebrew did get rave reviews and June sounds like a great time to try a little (or a lot!  ;) )
