Just rec'd the new Porcelain Coated Cast Iron Grills and Griddles for my Coleman Road Trip Grill. The finish looks great and they SHOULD clean up much easier that the anodized aluminum (or whatever they were) old style!
Will let you know when we finally go camping, which here in Vermont will be Memorial Weekend!!!

We have this grill and love it.  It goes with us on every trip.

Did you buy new grills and griddles or did they replace them free-of-charge because they are now porcelain-coated?

oldmoose

It's all Lori's fault that we have a Roadtrip also. But, it's ok because we love ours also. It goes with us on almost every trip.

Right sis!

No, I doubt they would have replaced them. I've had the road trip for a few years now. The first thing I did when I bought it was order the burner grates, and an extra Grill and an extra griddle so I could use it as a full stove, grill, griddle or combination of any two.

they are still selling the lighter weight grills and griddles for it, but the porcelean covered ones where only a little more!

I think this is the best camp stove/grill/griddle I've ever owned. I even use it at home when I don't want to waste the gas firing up the BIG barbie on the deck for just the two of us!

The Roadtrip and the Dutch Oven- My two best Cooking tool purchases!

Ok.  Which model are you guys talking about? I have seen several models of the 'Roadtrip'.  I have been looking for a grill/griddle like this but no decision yet...

Gary, I agree with you. Give me my RT and DO's and I'm a happy camper.

Oooooh ... might have to get one of those ...

Holly and I have thought over and over again about getting one, and even missed a chance to get one for about 80 bucks. But we just don't have any more space (or poundage to spare). Maybe when we go to the grey/dark side...

I've seen the RT grill at Costco for about $150 and it comes with the wheeled carrying case. We love ours!!!!

W are also looking for a new grill this season & were thinking of the LXE one as we can get free with our airmiles.  The Coleman Road Trip Grill LXE I see does not detach from it's stand to go on a table, it has to stay on the stand and the lid is not detachable for larger pans.  Do you guys think those are essential options or will this do just fine?  I mean it's on airmiles so $0 down seems good to me and that for that price why not?

When we purchased our Viking last summer they were inlcuding a Coleman roadtrip grill with the model Viking we purchased as a gift.  The first thing I did was buy the better grills and griddle inserts as well.   I always pack a 2nd propane tank as a spare for camping which I then use for the grill instead of the mini-bottles of propane.

Just so you guys know, Thermos makes a similar grill called the "Grill to go".  It has a flat surface (for cooking eggs and stuff) AND a grill surface similar to the George Forman grill.  The top portion detaches from the legs for table top grilling if wanted.  It is normally $149.00, Camping World members $129.00....Sports Authority has it on sale this week for $99.00.........worth checking out.

I looked at both and went with the Coleman.  The deciding factor was the Coleman's grill inserts were open, which allows the flames to "kiss" the cooking food (i.e. BBQ sauce crisps and carmelizes allot nicer!).
