How funny: Deidre will be the last to know...

My Marathon plans dashed by a little piece of debris on the Garden Grove Freeway about 6:15 this morning (Sun Oct 14)... came up like a brick through my grille plastic and smashed into the lower portion of the radiator, making awful crunchy sounds as it bouced along the bottom of the car. I saw immediate smoke but then it stopped. So I got off the freway onto Trask and stopped: no warning lights but a cloud (steam) coming from under hood. Called home: Deidre sleeps too soundly! Called AAA and got tow to my friendly tire/body shop. Looks like *maybe* some damage right behind the radiator but won't know that til mechanic gets in at 9am.

At 7:30 when all the elite runners were taking off on their 26.22 mile experience, I was jogging back the 3/4 mile home from tire shop...record time, by the way!

Philosophically, this may have saved me from injury/embarassment in a poor performance; financially, with the excess 11 miles on tow, it's a royal pain. Oh, well:
maybe next year. I still have the half-marathon in December to impress everyone with!!

Hi Dan, I was just getting ready to make a comment about Dee being up and posting on a Sunday at 7:09 AM. Nevermind......

Sorry to hear about the car and missing your marathon. We look forward to hearing about your Dec. run. You and Kevin will also be missed next weekend.

Bummer Dan.

Sorry to hear about the car, and hope it doesn't cost too much.

Keep up the training, ther is always plenty of other marathons and half marathons

Sorry about the mishap Dan!

Being that you were going to run through my neighborhood, we were going to set up some chairs and watch the runners go by.  Oh well, now we're off to Disneyland! :D

Well his car isn't done so we are renting a car tomorrow..so far it looks like it took out the radiator and the AC condensor
Kara still has 4 pox that haven't scabbed over...grrrrrr...

I am so ready for camping!!!!

Dan, sorry to hear about your mishap and missing the marathon. I would have just been sICK!

I ran the Music City 1/2 Marathon this past April. Wow! What an experience, and what work! I highly respect people who run those and full marathons regularly.

Funny thing is...About mile 11, I was wondering, "What the heck was I thinking when I signed up for this?" Then, after I finished, and recovered a bit, I thought, "I want to run more!"

Having a baby and buying a house all within 2 months has put a huge damper on my running, but I hope to start back soon.

Good luck in your 1/2 marathon in December. I hope to be able to run a Turkey Trot on T'giving Day, like I have for the past 3 years. Don't want to break my streak, but I'm in bad shape right now.
