I'm so glad your son had a good time!  I'm sure girl #1's workplace enviroment will not be pleasent after this!!  Out of all those employee, somebody's bound to rub it in!

There is one thing I would have done differently.  The reason morally bankrupt people can get away with things like this is because we let them.

Had it been me, when I talked to the mother and got the "it was her decision..." nonsense, I would have said, "Yes, it was her decision.  It was her decicion to say yes in the first place, and her decision to wait until the last minute to inform my son.  Like most decisions, it has consequences.  One of those consequences is that it is my decision to sue her in small claims court for the thousand dollars.  You need to understand that she will loose.  It would have been much cheaper to just go with him.  Good bye."

It would have had at least a temporary effect, even if you never did sue.  BTW, since he went with someone else, you probably couldn't collect now.

I'm glad it worked out for you and your son.

Glad everything worked out.  It was so nice of the other employees to help make the night special.

So,,,,,, how did it go?

I remember my prom very well........yeeeeeeechhhh! held in the gymnasium of the school and decorated to the hilt but it was still the gymnnasium and looked it. Even with all those silver and blue reflective stars and the crystal ball reflecting light and all that papering and stuff.....still the grim gym. LOL! :Z :-() :sombraro:
LOL.... I have to agree with you there.... I went to a large high school (freshman and sophmore) who would have proms off location, and my family moved and I went to a very small HS that everyone grew up with everyone and most of them were related somehow to one another.  At my 1st HS, a close friend of mine was engaged to a math teacher... he ended up changing jobs to where else,,, the same new HS I was attending the same year.  I was the only one who could call him by his first name and talk about rumors flying... well all the teachers had to help with the prom and it to was of course in our gym.  The 2 of us had the biggest laugh decorating trying not to make it look like a gym, but what can you do... A GYM IS A GYM...SMELL AND ALL!!

LOL...those were my thoughts exactly after all of this!!!  If the rest of the employees thought this much of Chad to go to all this....Girl #1 is most likely in for a real hard time!   hehehe....

I'm glad it turned out so well for the two of them though!!  What a great looking couple!

I'd like the address and name of people (at least the head starters at Penny's who started to orchestrate this for the kids).  I'd like to send a short note to say how wonderful they were for doing this.

I'm just wondering if anything is going on with that first loser girl who wasn't going in the first place.  Someone is bound to rub it in with that little spoiled thing.  It should be all over school and her place of employment.  Why not have an article in the local paper as to how JCP pitched in at last minute to make sure the prom was perfect for the couple.  AND, no names or reference to be made regarding the 1st one.

I would make a great human interest story.. at least a community newspaper would cover this.

Starcraft Dad

Actually, a picture was e-mailed to Dallas (home office) and the story to be put in the JCP Magazine.  Someone from down there found out about it and wanted the story.
The first girl hasn't come back yet.  She took the week off suddenly and won't be back until monday.  She will definately get the cold shoulder from everyone.
We are just glad that it is over and behind us now.  Chad has been walking on cloud 9 since then and his self asteem has risen tremendously.  It was his very first date.  He has/had very low self asteem when it comes to girls.  I believe now, Holly got him over it.  I can never thank her enough.  I thought he was going to live with us until he was 35.:yikes:

I have no idea who started it.  No one wants to admit that they did it.  But thier were so many people involved, I wouldn't know where to start a guess.  Thanks for writing.    This is why I love PUT so much.  You all are so caring.

Things happen for a reason. He went with Holly and had a great time! :)

I think if that first girl's parents insisted on her going, she would have just made him miserable. Unfortunately, she will probably continue to do selfish things and her parents will shrug it off. It's her loss- she obviously missed out on a great looking date and a fun evening.

Great what JC Penny did, by the way- very supportive of their employees. It's nice to read these kinds of things.

Acts 2:38 girl

With your information,  I just e-mailed the Corperate Office!  I hope they give that store an award!

What a good looking son and it is hard to imagine that he is shy, but I know how that is because I am married to a shy one and I am kind of shy myself.  Of course, as I have gotten older, I have broken out of some of my shell.  It sounds like Holly is a true friend and very mature.  She must have set him at ease and it's so good that they had a wonderful time.

By the way, "Go Starcraft, and go camping!"  Yep, I loved that ole Starcraft Popup I used to have.  It was sold and now I have to go out and find another trailer.

I passed this story along to my prom going DD who thought the first girl was horrible. She couldn't even imagine anyone doing such a cruel thing. We were so glad to hear (and see) how nicely it all worked out. Thanks for posting this. It's a reminder to all of us how our actions affect others (good & bad). You just have to love those Pennys employees :D ). My DD said she'll go by herself if her prom date backs out. She'd still have her friends by her side. Seems your son is surrounded by friends too.
