 Hey folks,

This is my very first mod.  I m a member of NNC and we have a word for modifications and that is deshnitzify.  So I m excited about this desnitzification.

Anyway, I used to have an industrial carpeting that I inherited from the first owner of the PopUp that I used as the flooring.  I just didn t like the linoleum.  But, after using it for almost two years, it s become pretty grungy.  So I got a friend of mine to help me install those residential hardwood floor looking things and now the interior looks great.

I also had an icebox that I didn t use, so we ripped that out and installed a microwave in its place.  I just thought I d share what we did just in case anyone else is thinking of doing any desnitzifying.

I was a little apprehensive about tearing into the cabinetry, but once you get into it, well, there s no going back, so here s the results.  Hope this gives you ideas for your own desnitzifying.

It isn t perfect, but it sure surpassed my expectations.

 Hardwood floor materials - $ 60.00
Other supplies and hardware materials - $ 50.00
 Microwave - $ 100
Sense of reward and accomplishment - Priceless

SurfcalNice look with the hardwood flooring. I wonder if this is a first. I guess the next thing we ll see is ceramic tile.

I wish we could put our microwave somewhere where we didn t have to pull out and put it back each time we setup and break down camp. Of course I would rather have it sitting higher and not so low to the floor.

 Nice modifcations none the less.[:)]

SurfcalSurfcal did you remember to deshnitzify?  It looks like you did, but I just wanted to make sure.  The floor looks great.  I wouldn t mind having that in my PU.  Will you use throw rugs in there or just go with the wood floor?[:)]

 Hello Tracy:

Thanks for asking.  I was just deeply pondering that!

I don t know if I m going with the rug idea.  Being from Northern California, I have to read up on what s Feng Shui.  I was thinking that at night, it ll be great to have a Lava lamp going with some black lights, the Doors playing in the background, maybe with one of those water fountain thingies with smooth rocks.  I don t know.

Perhaps I ll go with a bearskin remant on the floor and I ll walk around in my bathrobe.  I m still trying to visualize my motif.  Do you have any suggestions?

 SurfcalSurfcal,

I have a suggestion.  I suggest you shutup because:

 [ul]

  • People already think of us as the granola state (fruits, nuts, and the rest flakes
  • g-whiz is now saying, " I ve been looking at the fung shei of our camper and after looking at Ray s, I am thinking of all kinds of ways to improve ours."
  • She is also saying, " Ceramic Tile, where can we use ceramic tile?"
  • [/ul]

BTW--I m proud to identify myself as one of the NUTS in the granola mix.

SurfcalThe floor looks great. I think you re gonna start a trend. I m glad to see that I m not the only one who leaves food in the cupboards all year round.

SurfcalYou need to paint your door red, it allows the chi to enter and keep things in harmoney.  Plenty of living plants, inside, would help too.  Peace.[8D][8D][8D]

SurfcalI have to ask, because it was the first thing that came to mind- what about the weight?

We put this type of flooring in our home foyer this year and a box with 8 boards in it weighed a lot, just to carry around. Now weight may not apply to people that don t own the heavier campers, but I thought I d ask.

The installation looks fantastic. It s the finishing touches that really make it look great![:)]

 Good question!

Well Kathy, I thought about that.  I agree that those things have considerable weight, but when I measured the area I need to cover, a mere 20 square feet, the cumulative extra weight of the boards probabaly added another 50 pounds.  I got the thinnest material I could find, for two reasons.  Weight, and another, clearance for the cabinet doors.  The microwave set-up was offset by the other junk that we took out of there.

I added a couple of pictures on the Desnitzifying page to show you the size of the trailer folded down and the truck I tow with.  My truck is really beefy and overpowered for what I use it for.  I don t advocate this installation if you re borderline on weight.  But I like it simply for its elegance in look, provides for sturdier flooring support, excellent insulation, durability and best of all, ease of maintenance.  I also hope that the composite material would be indifferent to variable temperatures, humidity and moisture which would alleviate worries about warping.

I also weeded out some items in the trailer that I used to cart around and didn t use, but mainly for room and not weight.  Bottom line is, it s not the lightest material, but what the heck, I hope it makes for a better camping experience.

SurfcalIsn t there some feng shui thing that says your should face a certain direction.  You might have to be careful in the campgrounds.  And I don t think you will be allowed to camp in the shadow of any big RVs.
Looks great Ray!  Maybe you can look at ours and give us some ideas.

I normally am very quiet, but you asked so I will tell you what I think[:D].  I think the bathrobe on the floor and you in your bare skin would be the way to go[:)], oh wait I got that backwards.  Oh do which every you like.[:D][;)]

Ab Diver

SurfcalUh, Ray, if that s you standing next to the pop-up-- you ve changed your hair color, Bro![;)]

All I can say is " WOW!"   My first mod was adding adhesive-backed bubble levels to the sides of the trailer. You ve raised the bar significantly. (Newbies, take heart, Ray has media production experience and also used a stunt double. All mods were performed on a closed track. Do not attempt these mods at home.) Next will probably be the Corion countertop, 60"  flat-screen DVD entertainment center, leather upholstery, etc, etc. But you re from the city, and that s cool. Here in the country, we went for the " Old West Look" : sawdust on the floor, spittoon in the corner, roll-out wood sidewalk instead of astro-tuff under the awning, and a hitching post next to the outside stove.[;)]

Seriously, well done, Ray! The end result looks VERY nice.

SactoCampers

SurfcalGood job on the floor, Ray. Looks really good. As for the feng shui, I ran your modifications against my computer model and I think you re okay. Just make sure your stairs aren t directly facing your entry door. That s very bad feng shui.

You tackle the big projects, but you don t even have the requisite astro turf carpet? Whatever. Get your butt down to home depot, fork out the 12 bucks and strap it to the back of your bumper! Otherwise you ll be tracking Lake Chabot all over that new floor. [:o] [;)]

But I feel like a dork. I haven t deschnitzified anything.

Surfcal, Minister of Feng Shui!! Do we have a second?

Looks REALLY good Ray, I think Neff will have something to say though...remember when I asked him to do a mantle for the TrailManor?

I can t wait to slide across your floor!! I knew that eventually you would cross the line....NNCers Veronica wants to know how to tell if a rig is " snitzified"  and I (looking around cautiously) diodn t know what to tell her...so a little help here please. Larry can you help, Sacto? I told her that all trailers are delivered from the factory that way, but she said she " ain t buyin " ....hep meh pleez.

 Happy Campin

SactoCampers

 Civil_War_BuffLar,

You can always refer her to the Nick-Neff-Cough website bylaw #7:

Quote#7: Any repair, modification, or malady solved shall be referred to as " deshnitzifying"  the popup.

Thus you absolve yourself of any further responsibility on the matter. [:)]

But you were right, all campers come from the factory schnitzified. It s our responsibility as owners to " deschnitzify"  them.
