When in a campground at night do you turn on fans or AC to drown out any campground noise?  I see some families that sleep with their flaps completely rolled down where I would assume you can hear just about everything from someone walking bye to doors or zippers being open and closed or voices carrying over from a campfire.   I like " white noise"  such as a fan running.   Whenever I hear other people s noise...I can t sleep!!

CamperrooYep, we sleep with a fan or A/C running at camp or even at home to drown out the neighbors. If the campground is quiet, we put the portable fan on low speed so we can still hear the hoot owls, coyotes, and frogs chirping, etc -but a noisy campground calls for the A/C and /or its fan which is louder in volume.
It is interesting to hear the neighbors snoring away (snicker).

CamperrooI camp mostly at dog shows and sometimes at state parks. The state parks I ve been too have big sites that are separated from other sites with lots of vegetation.  So they are pretty private and quiet.

It is a differnet story at the dog shows where you are generally parked in an open field and some times pretty close to the neighbors.  Most of the other folks at the shows are in big rigs so once they are inside you don t hear them.  But come 6 a.m. everybody is up pottrying and feeding their critters.  Fortunately for me I am not exactly a light sleeper.  I do, however, enjoy the sound of a fan as white noise.

CamperrooDH can sleep through anything and can fall aslepp no mater how much chaos goes on around him.   Once the kiddos are asleep, they can sleep through anything.  I tend to startle more easily when we are in a more crowded cg.

In quieter places, I tend to stay up to listen to the sounds around me - like rain, owls, wind.  I love the night time.

So if I am really tired, the fan or other white noise goes on. That way I get lulled to sleep.

CamperrooEar plugs are a great thing.  As I m a night worker, I m use to wearing them all the time.

CamperrooThere s not too many perks associated with being a senior citizen and having an advanced case of CHS (can t hear stuff), but one is that when I turn off/take out both[/b] hearing aids I could have slept through the night in Baghdad during the bombardment and never heard a thing.  For that matter, can t hear a heck of a lot with the hearing aids on!  Never hear a thing at night in the parks but my wife says it sometimes gets a little noisy.

Enjoy the noise while you can still hear it! [:)]

CamperrooWe mostly stay in State Parks in VT and NH and quiet hours ARE quiet hours. Some of the MA state parks we ve been in are another matter!!! One night while tenting at Horseneck Beach last summer, just the sound of 2 guys talking by their (illegal) campfire (Drought) kept me up until about 2 am.
I do like the sound of a fan running. I was born in July in Virginia and a fan was in my room and I m sure that s why I feel comfort from the noise 50 years latter! Now that I am on a CPAP machine at night, I not only get to gear a fan, but the sound of my breathing pretty much drowns out everything else! I will be very upset if it drowns out the Loons!!!

CamperrooI like the white noise if the campground is noisey.  If not I like being able to hear stuff.

Camperrooyes we run a small white noise machine or a fan. But I still sleep lightly while camping.

CamperrooWe run a fan at home at night.  Do the same in the campground too.

CamperrooIt s pretty quiet most of the places I ve camped in the past  (except for Sequoia Natl Park many years ago - lots of partying and motorcycle noise back then).  We usually dry camp and most of the campgrounds we go to have space between the campsites.

Gone-Camping

CamperrooI don t like any noise when I m sleeping, including white noise. However, that would be lessor of the two evils. I m funny on sleep, I can snore my way right through a thunderstorm, but let just one kid try and stealth-like sneak the door open to the bedroom, and I wake right up!

CamperrooI love to hear the owls, coyotes, frogs, etc etc.  In the morning, the birds wake me up.  The only few things I don t llike is hearing any type of " Traffic"  noise (especially dieses and motorcycles real early or real late), continuous barking or howling, or loud music.  I ve tried earplugs before, but they always pop out of my ears (LOL).  Hubby doesn t snore, so luckily, I don t have to contend with that.  He runs his little portable fan most of the time, so that puts me right to sleep.  I love steady background noise like ticking clocks, fans, or the A/C.

CamperrooI must be the only camper who can t sleep with the rain hitting the roof. I know some of you love the sound.....I just can t get use to it. Its not bad when it hits the canvas over the beds.....but the roof is another story.....especially when it drips from the branches. I went camping friday nite and it started to rain after midnight. I wear ear plugs so its much better now except when the furnace came on.....i was ready to scream. For now on, I m going to sleep on the other side of the pu. The only thing is the TV is on the furnace side. So I will need to really stay focus when I watch it or get a bigger tv.

 CamperrooDepends on which night.

First night USED to be a challenge for us, I would hear everything and made it somewhat restless for DW.  Then I would be up just as dawn was thinking about breaking.  Worked well for bathhouse use though - the floor was still dry.

Subsequent nights, read, watch tv, light out, zonk.

Now I even go back to sleep in the morning if I want, with the daylight outside...either I am exhausted, or age is creeping up.  Unfortunately, the one dog knows when you are awake, and who wants to get dressed to walk a dog when you re crawling back into the bunk.
