A short while ago, I mentioned that in some modifications that I was contemplating for my PU I used the term " DECHINTZIFYING" . Now some of the members of this group (either by reading this too fast, too late at night or in an alcoholic haze) have B$$terdized this fine Pennsylvania Dutch term with at least 15 misspellings, and tolerant that I am about mistakes people make (mine most of all) this has got to cease.

I have contacted my Corporate legal counsel, Iben Ribbenuoff, to follow this trail
to its source of deliberate and malicious misprounciations and spelling and to issue a cease and desist order to the major offender(s).

 Ole Dan l Webster has this to say;

Chintz-y (chintz se) adj. chintz-i-er, chintz-i-est. 1. of, like, or decorated with chintz. 2. CHEAP or gaudy, 3. miserly

If this kind of thing is not stopped, I am sure that the world will come to an end as we know it. Pretty soon terms like cow tipping will change to mow hipping and through a long series of whispered mispronouncatons and inuendos will become
the dreaded word motorhome.  Enough I say!

Thank you for your kind attention.

sammyslaveAfter speaking with my lawyer, Arn " I m a loya"  Tellum, we have just filed a PUT  court order to preserve usage, and any variation of the term DESHNITZIFY. It is our position that possession is 90% of the law, and the PUT community has taken possession of the term DESHNITZIFY and adopted it as a colloquial term here on PUT. Therefore, the plaintiffs allegations are baseless since no community member has used the " CH"  variation (the main point of difference and the real item of dispute here) of the term, thus we call for a mistrial.  Additionally we are countersuing on the grounds that the plaintiff may not have, in fact, spelled the term as stated. Defense counsel will research the PUT archives to retrieve the original post in dispute of the plaintiffs claim. We allege that CH and SH are both left-handed keystroke sequences and is plausible were posted to the board by the plaintiff in the absence of a direct spell check command.  So, we are confident the court will order in our favor that there has been no copyright, patent, or trademark infringement and will approve our countersuit seeking reimbursement of all legal counsel fees due to this frivolous lawsuit.

sammyslaveSo..its a fight you want eh? Well I can see that word mongers are running amok on this thread. Pretty soon th " N"  will disappear and then the moderator will have to take the controls.

 sammyslaveLarry,

You should be glad that " deshnitzify"  has morphed as a PUT language that is moving into the mainstream.  Latin died because it didn t evolve with the times.

You re the only one using that s using it in the form of Chinz-y, a form none one can quite comprehend any longer.

sammyslaveJeeze, Ray! Pretty soon we ll be using esperanto. Either that or igpay atenlay.

Whatever happened to the old standards? Bye the way, Latin died because you couldn t dance to it. Just imagine watching Grease in Latin.

sammyslavePoint of Parliamentary Procedure, if you please:

If you look at the archives of the old board, I believe you will find that I actually *did* define the term " deschnitzify"  to be derived from the original Sammyslavian text of " dechinzify" . Moreover, however, and forthwith, dechinzify was determined to mean altering, modifying, repairing, or replacing that which " chizifies"  a recreational vehicle. Chinzify was further determined to define that which, through intentional, negligent, or haphazard design and construction, imparts to said recreational vehicle the inherent strength of schnitzel.

Thus, *Deschnitzify* stands as a colloquial term used in a popular internet pop-up camper forum, and revered as " The King s English"  by a certain collection of miscreants, oddballs, rabble-rousers, and granola ingredients (fruits, nuts, and flakes) collectively known as Nick-Neff-Cough, and is further defined as an action, or process, through which various parts, problems, or systems of pop-up, hybrid, and other forms of recreational vehicles, are enhanced, invigorated, improved, and generally " made better" .

Whew! (Taking deep breath) Ok, was that simple enough???

sammyslaveNot being a lawyer, but pretending to be one when it suits my purposes, and being capable of long sentences that no one can quite understand, I am compelled to file this Friend of the Court Brief.

First, we feel that in this current matter (sammyslave vs. various board members, et al.), that there is an alternate and overlooked orign for the term " deshnitzify" , as an adaptation of " deSnitzify" , defined as " the process of moving the boards from the previous format (a.k.a.  Snitz forms )"  to the current form (a.k.a. " ASP Playground Forum SQL v1.96.23" ).  Since there is little or no real proof that either word origin is the actual origin, we feel the court should rule that all actions by all parties to have no basis and therefore to be null and void.

Second, we further urge the court to consider that no evidence has been presented of monetary or property damages and therefore no financial renumerations or corrections can be made.

Third, the plaintiff (sammyslave) has failed to show that this court even has juristicion over this matter.  Since the board members reside in various states, and since the board itself resides in and is hosted by an organization in Virginia, we feel that this court may not even have juristiction over this matter.

sammyslaveIn lieu of The Honorable Boston s pre-trial hearing statement regarding jurisdictional boundaries, defense presents to Plaintiff a plea bargain, agreeing in principle to use of the term DESCHNITZIFY as currently defined in Nick-Neff-Cough Bylaw #7:

 EXHIBIT A:

DESCHNITZIFY (or any variation of so long as no less than " SH"  are used):#7: Any repair, modification, or malady solved shall be referred to as " deshnitzifying"  the popup.

In return, Defense hereby withdraws countersuit alleging Plaintiff s keystroke sequence error and agrees to abide by Webster s definition of DECHINTZIFY as defined by Plaintiff:

 EXHIBIT B:

DECHINTZIFY: (1. of, like, or decorated with chintz. 2. CHEAP or gaudy, 3. miserly.)

As evidenced by Exhibits A and B, respectively, DESCHNITZIFY and DECHINTZIFY are distinct terms with independent definitions. Defense believes both terms may peacefully coexist, pursuant to their definitions without further debate and absent confusion among the PUT community. Defense, in forthcoming agreement from Plaintiff, hereafter considers this matter resolved and legally binding.

sammyslaveI can really relate to Sammyslave s frustration because for about fifteen years I have been trying to get a word added into the English language.  Currently we use the word COMPUTING to describe using a computer.  However, to me COMPUTING is the wrong word---it is a WORK word---like computing a list of numbers into an answer.

As this group knows, COMPUTERS are much more than that, so I think the word COMPUTERING should be used, as in.  " Scott, what are you doing tonight?"   Reply:  I m just doing some computering, maybe going on the PUT Boards...hmm, PUTTING or PUTTERING?

Therefore I can fully relate to Sammyslave s frustration, of having invented a perfectly great word, DECHINZIFY, only to have it b***ardized, into the now popular DESCHNITZIFY.

But relate or not, empathize or not, want or not, we have to concede an accepted truth, (and Larry I love you man), the way people USE the language determines language.   I am certain that the wordsmith Surfcal will back me up on this. For example, remember when " bad"  was " bad"  and then it suddenly became " good"  and remained " good"  for so long that now " bad"  pronounced baaad means good.

So Larry, and I love you man, I give you credit for inventing the concept and the word DECHINZIFY, bit the word that became popular is DESCHNITZIFY (or some variable spelling of it).

Now I also believe that there is a reasonable solution that will avoid the lawsuits and counter-lawsuits.  (Yes, a very California thing)
