I was thinking about buying a small microwave to go camping. How many people use their microwave when camping?

slowpez

hbfc6We don t use the one we have at home so we wouldn t use one in the PU either.  The only electric appliance I do take is a coffee pot - even that I don t always use as I like the smell that comes from the old perk type.

hbfc6My wife won t go anywhere without her microwave[&:] We use it for large get together breakfasts for cooking bacon, heating maple syrup for the " Freedom"  Toast[8D][;)], heating a quick snack for lunch...of course my wife s idea of roughing it, is no valet parking[:D]

It really comes in handy on those hot summer days when you are trying to cook with out burning up. We usually camp in electric hookup sites anyway so might as well take advantage of it.

hbfc6We don t have one.  Most of the time we dry camp, so we couldn t use one if we had it.  I did enjoy HersheyGirl making bacon in hers though.[:D]

 hbfc6Microwave & bacons, hmmm, good idea !!!!!

hbfc6My mom brought hers for Memorial Day weekend, it sat on the ground unused all weekend next to her camper.  We just don t do anything microwave hardly at home, much less camping.  The nine year old nuked a weiner this afternoon in the microwave, and that s the first time its been used probably in well over a week.

I guess if you use the microwave a lot at home, you would probably appreciate one camping, but we just don t use it.  They might be nice if you were addicted to popcorn, but even our popcorn when camping we make over the campfire, on the rare occassion we want popcorn that is.

Gone-Camping

hbfc6I rarely used my microwave, though it has come in handy for reheating coffee, or the kids making popcorn. The new Hybrid has one built in, it ll probably be the most under used item in the trailer, but it s there if I need it!!!

hbfc6Mine gets used a lot.  I use my crock pot at home at lot and freeze extra servings of what I make in the deep freeze.  These go into the cooler frozen to be heated up in the microwave.  Also great for popcorn., heating soup, warming leftovers.

Zooey

hbfc6We use ours quite a bit, actually more so when we are camping.  We use it for heating up left-overs or canned vegetables.  It s just so much easier and doesn t make as many dishes to wash.

hbfc6No microwave for me! Geez, I actually enjoy getting away from all the kitchen appliances and other electronics. Besides, if I wanted all the convienences of home, I would just stay home! Campstove, small BBQ or campfire, everything taste better when your camping and cooking in the great outdoors.

hbfc6I agree with Sue, isn t the idea of camping to get away from our high-tech world for a while?[;)]
We do ALL our cooking on the tripod, even the bacon in a fry pan. We do have a griddle, but we ve only used it once(the kids wanted pancakes).[:D]

 hbfc6hbfc6,

I guess I am in the same boat as slowpez. Nothing like the real McCoy.

 " " heating maple syrup " "

Hey wahoonc, is that real maple syrup?[&:] Not to many people buy it today.

CathyAnn

hbfc6We have one, but don t use it very much.  Sure is good to have it just in case though!!

hbfc6I have a lovely small microwave called (I think) Little Mike made by GE.  Got it new for $38.  It fit perfectly in the cabinet of the EuroVan camper, but folks at that forum looked for it and said it had been discontinued.  I believe Sanyo make a smallish one - Target used to carry it.

Now I transport it on the floor in a " milk crate"  and then put it on top of the Cabela s green box that I got at Sam s Club.  Don t use it very often - mostly (like Sue Healey) for heating up a home-frozen dinner on the first night.  This past weekend another camper in our group came over and asked to heat something.

It s one of those things...if i leave it at home, i ll be needing it, so I schlepp.

CampinCrazy

hbfc6We use ours as a " just in case"  back up.  Most of our cooking is over the fire, but it s nice to have coffee without stoking up the flames.  Plus we are all addicted to microwave kettle corn, and it s great to just throw it in for an evening snack.
