There is a remote posibility that the DW & I may have to move sometime over the next couple of years.

Out of these cities, where should we look to go & why?

 LOS ANGELES

 SAN FRANCISCO

 MIAMI

 ATLANTA

 CHICAGO

 NEW ORLEANS

 NEWARK

 NEW YORK CITY

 DALLAS

 HOUSTON

I must admit that I lived in south Florida for 32 years and don t think Miami is in the picture.  So, any ideas???

tim5055Do not come to Jersey!! Everyplace here is getting crowded the taxes are high, traffic is bad, we do have some good schools but other then that every place is packed..... WE can not wait to move when DH retires in a few years! we are looking to move to Pa.

tim5055Sorry to hear that Charlotte or anyplace in North Carolina is not on the list.  This is beautiful Country.. with great cities and beautiful Mountains...  Its the best of all worlds and I would not leave this area without a major fight..

Hope you stay somewhere over here on the East Coast so we can camp again!!!

Good Luck on your future move...

tim5055Don t know much about most of the cities.  Lived in Fort Worth, in Dallas often, wouldn t live in either if I had my druthers.  Of course, I m just not into city living so that may influence my thoughts.

Lived in NYC 40 years ago.  Didn t like it then and can t imagine living there now.

Houston?  You d rather have a root canal.  Hot, very humid, a huge traffic jam and getting worse.

New Orleans?  Spent a lot of time there.  So low and wet they bury people above the ground.  Too thick to navigate and too thin to cultivate.

The California cities.  Do you really think they will be around two years from now?  Kinda iffy.

Can t say much about the other possibles one way of the other.

Been thinking about someplace high and dry myself - Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado.  But, they might be burned to a crisp before I can get there.

Guess I ll just hang around Huntsville for awhile.  It s just as hot and humid as Houston, but the traffic is just a tad easier to deal with.

 Good luck!  [8D]

tim5055Move to the DFW area but not IN the actual city...get an area with land.  It s cheap here, people are friendly, and pop upping lasts for much longer since our winters are short and our summers long.

tim5055Well since you ve lived in FL you can probably handle the heat/humidity of TX so I d say Dallas/Ft worth (haven t been to Huston yet) Winter s are great, real estate is realativly cheap, people are friendly, and most importantly they have a PU camping club.

Personally I m not sure I ll make the heat here another 2 months to get to the great fall/winter[: (]

tim5055NYC- no. Been there, lived there- won t go back.

BUT 4 hours north- you bet! Catskills first, then the Adirondacks!

Drawbacks- upstate NY has been in a recession for about 15 years. Jobs are hard to come by, unless you are right in Albany County or Saratoga County.

We looked into Sacramento, CA a few years back, when Blaise thought about taking a transfer with the phone company. We couldn t have bought a home on what he makes, out there. Lovely area, but pricey. (Where we are now, we have been able to buy a nice sized, newer home).

We have friends in the Chicago area- lots to do, but brutal winters.

For us, I wouldn t go anywhere south of NC. I HATE humidity and just can t take the heat (heck, I hated Florida in February).

 Good luck with your decision![:)]

tim5055I lived 7 years in San Francisco and just loved it.  However, traffic is a major pain, cost of living is sky high, so many people crowded into little space, but it is so beautiful there and I love the city life.  I would go back in a heartbeat.
DH lived in LA for 5 years, he liked it well enough, but the traffic is just awful and the commutes were just way too long.  He does not want to go back to CA,(he was born and raised there.)  Our standard of living would decrease greatly if we moved back.
Guess it all depends on what you want out of life.[8D][8D][8D]

Camperroo

tim5055well Los Angeles is very expensive, we lived on the coast which was beautiful but homes are very expensive along the coast cities...even supposedly modest homes.   Atlanta area would be my vote. Have friends that packed up and left MA after being fed up with house prices and expense of the Boston area.  Moved to Woodstock, GA where the built a beautiful large home for less than half of what they sold their house for here.  They love it down there and said they will never move back to the Boston area again.   I m constantly getting emails of houses for sale near my friend as she s working on us to chuck it all too and move down there.  But now that we have one just about to start high school we feel badly uprooting her at this point in her life.  However, if it was a job necessity then she d just have to deal with it, but at the moment that s not the situation.  THough I would love to sell our house, buy a brand new home for half of our sale price and sock all that money away for a change!!!!!!!!!

Turn Key

tim5055Chicago has a lot going for but a lot against it as well.  Been too long since I was last there to be a good judge but can t see recommending it unless your making a lot of money.

Houston is Houston and don t know any one who likes it, even the the people that I know who live there.  Spent a week there one morning in traffic, trying to get back from Galveston and that was the last time for me me.

Don t care for Dallas due to heavy traffic and lots of construction.  When we head for East Texas or beyond, we always hit the road about 4 am so we are beyond Dallas long before the traffic starts.  Not knowing where in Dallas you d be makes it hard to make a recommendation.  If possable, I d suggest south Tarrant County  (southern end of Ft. Worth) as where to live.  Growing but not huge (yet).

Can t help with the rest of the cities listed.  Hope where ever you end up, your happy.

 SAN FRANCISCO !!!

Why? Because you ll get to come to a Nick-Neff-Cough rally. [;)]

Tim, if you ll have to live *in* any of these cities, that s a tough call... S.F. may have a wonderful year-round climate, and a LOT of attractive things to do within a few hours drive, but living *in* the City By The Bay will not only cost an arm ana leg, but three fingers off the other hand as well. If you ll only need to live near the city, then the price of life goes down, but traffic during the commute will be a bear.

Ab Diver--- who drove past lots of happy campers up from the Bay Area today whilst partaking of another gorgeous coastal Northern California day: warm temps, calm seas, and 30 feet of visibility in the water! We be having ab for dinner. You move over here, Tim, and I ll make sure you get an abalone dinner whilst camping. Deal?

tim5055If not for the lack of good jobs there would only be one answer and I can tell you in just two words.  West Virginia.  All you have to do is listen to the lyrics of the song John Denver sung.

tim5055If the NEWARK is newark (pronounced new-ark as opposed to that town in NJ new-erk), DE, that is a college partying town and you would still be in the Midatlantic.

If you left this area, the Eastern Rallys would not be the same...no Felicia having the kids torment her (and vice versa) no Natasha to keep the kids in line (the perfect threat was " better be good or you will be Natasha s snack"  [;)]  )
