ForestCreatureWhere did all of you camp?

tlhdoc

ForestCreatureWe camped at Shady Oaks Campground in PA.  It is a 30+ year old campground with a small group area (that was where we were).  Water and electric at every site.  They even had 2 water faucets at each site so you could have your hose hooked up and still get water outside.

It was a great camping trip.

 ForestCreatureG Mornin !
WOW! where do I start?  We all met in a small CG in PA called Shady Oaks, about a half hr from Hershey. Great job finding a place for us Lee, the layout was perfect for a group. This little CG was probably glad to see us all pull out 1 by 1[:D]

We arrived Saturday to Lee, Doug and Tracy all set up. The guys played the how many times can you put up and take down the 20 foot awning game about 3 times!
I even got pictures of Doug doing manual labor. We unloaded a cord full of wood out of Lees truck which he kindly provided for us......thanks for all the wood Lee

Let the party begin!!  This group kept us up till 5 AM the first night!! the following nights we went to bed at a more reasonable time...between 4 and 2 AM. We all had some great laughs around the fire.

During the day we all went our own way investigating the area. On Wed we made a group trek to Hershey Park where Gene, Doug, Gary and myself rode the coasters.
I made it thru all but the last big wooden one, had to sit that one out[:(] (beats hurting the rest of the week tho)

We had an unplanned  pot luck on Tuesday, the food was great. Ray smoked up some pork roasts (yummmm) I experimented with a recipe out of Amys crockpot cook book in the DO...turned out pretty good considering I had no real clue what I was doing (this was the 3rd attempt using it)  the Apple Upsidedown cake wasn t burnt so I considered it a success.

Gene got us all yelled at one night for making us laughing to loud [:o] He presented me with an Intercourse road sign which is proudly displayed in the camper, pointing at our bed!....Thanks for the sign and the addition you made to it Gene [8D] I love it!

I had camped with most people there before, this was our first time meeting Doug (Giffster) and Tracy (Tlhdoc)...which we enjoyed meeting both of you, glad you made it there...

For all of you meeting Doug along his journey west, He s alot of fun.

And to all you guys who were there, I ain t drinkin tonight![:D]

 Where we camping next year??????[:D][8D][:)]

That s what I told them! They all were a little concerned at what might happen if Marcy was around that much wine![: (]

Shady oaks was a great. What a great spot for something like this.  http://www.shadyoakscamp.com/sitemap.html
I think you d be hard pressed to find two nicer people running a cg or ones that work harder to keep it clean. Everytime I used the bathhouse it was clean and dry.

I would recommend Dutchwonderland to anyone with kids 2-10yrs. We would go back just for that.

It was really nice having real fireside chats and seeing Jeffery again (or bearbait I don t know what he s calling himself this week) either way I can t believe how much wood he brought from Minn.!

CampNfan

ForestCreatureI wish to extend my thanks to everyone! It was my first trip out since my surgery. " PUT people are the best!"  I pulled in and was swarmed by everyone and set up in record time. All worked in reverse when it was time to leave. I was just a bit leary about camping just yet. But Everyone said just show up and we will do the rest. So I did, and they did! It was great to see evryone. Funny how when you talk to folks that don t know of " PUT"  like family, friends and co-workers, and you tell them I am sleeping and camping with folks I met off the internet. They think you are nuts! (Remember that conversation Jan? =" Cyclone" ) With all the freaky things we hear in the news about internet happenings.......... There are some good happenings too! I have yet to meet just one person from our little " Cult"  (like that Dave?) that I can say I don t like. I have made some good friends, that make life just a little bit more special and FUN! So where is the " Group SHOT" . [;)]

ForestCreatureWe too had a great time. Too bad Don kept us all up so late every night[;)].

I do have to make a point of the mix of accents, especially Doug s (giffster). Of course being from Maine I do not have an accent[:D].  Doug was offering one his his fine cooked up delicacies to all of us. I understood him to ask me if I wanted some " bull penis" ? Well I have tried a lot of foods in my life but I really wasn t interested in that so I just said no thanks. He was pretty persistent with the offer so I had to ask him why anybody would eat bull penis? After some repeating of his offer I finally understood him to be saying " boiled peanuts" , and still it never did sound like boiled peanuts maybe more like bold penis at the best.

I did try the boiled peanuts but I like the roasted ones better!!

All in all it was a great trip with some great people (even Doug who is now driving around the country).

ForestCreatureThings I learned while camping in PA:

 1.  Never leave home without emp ID card, especially if first two nights of trip are going to be spent in " company"  hotels.  Can t get emp. discount without the card.
 2.  Driving from Bowling Green, KY back to Nashville to retrieve card (see #1) wastes more than two hours.
 3.  The PA Turnpike is a very boring drive at the end of a long day.  The rest of what we saw in the state was worth the drive.  Much to see and do.
 4.  For some reason, the hottest day we are camping is always the day we have to set up and it s always raining when we break camp.
 5.  Stay out of Lancaster--several of us did some unplanned " exploring"  there.
 6.  It is FUN to sit around the fire until 3 or 4 night after night after night....
 7.  No matter what I do, I always have a bad hair week while camping.
 8.  Bearbait (despite his claims he was not in charge) was a great " host" .
 9.  The female half of the couple who owns Shady Oaks is one very smart lady (and a Titans fan) [;)]
 10. I just went camping with some of the best camping friends out there!  Thanks to all of you for a great and memorable week.   See you next year in my pop-up!

I couldn t agree more!  That s why I paid the money to stay on the board.

Welllll.........about that group shot [&:]..........was there supposed to be film in the camera?[:@]

It came out great!!  [:D] I  ll scan it and send it out sometime today and post it later....

ForestCreatureWish I would have known about this party (probably would have gone to bed long before the gang), but I was with another group in Southern DE at Traps Pond SP, no Lancaster to get lost in...could have gone the wrong way and ended up at the beach...

I was with a great bunch of mid-atlantic people, would have been fun if we all could have gotten together.  Maybe sometime.

yes Dutch Wonderland is great for the little ones, We used to go every year but my Jeffrey (not to be confused with the Jeffrey from MN, do not know if he will EVER grow up [8D] ) sort of out grew the park.
