OC Campers

Wow Lori, you almost have a mega rally going on.  Last year we only had 17 families.  Great job!!

Jacqui

griffsmom

Gee, I hadn't thought of that.  How many campers does it take to make a mega rally?

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed when I read your post, Jacqui.  I was hoping that you had found a way to rejoin us.  Oh well, we'll always have Pismo.

BTW, how's it up north?  :)  Let us know if NNC isn't treating you right.  We have friends in high places and they can make things happen, something about sleepin' wid da fishes, if you know what I mean...;)

Do we have an estimate on the number of kids coming?  I'm thinking about ordering a Halloween craft project for the kids from the Oriental Trading Catalogue...would 24 be enough?

I think there are going to be A LOT more than 24 kids at this thing.  Of all the attendees that have sent me the tally of kids and adults, I have 24 kids listed.  But that only covers about half the attendees.

A couple of other thoughts and bits of info:

Please be sure to let Randy Flinders know the total number in your group and the number and ages of your children.  One of our campers is thinking of doing a craft with the kids, and she needs to know how many there are in order to plan accordingly.

I have received a few questions about the potlucks.  As far as they are concerned, you can be as complicated or as easy as you'd like.  Many of us cook in dutch ovens, while others choose to contribute other prepared or store-bought dishes or goodies.  Whatever makes your life easy is perfectly fine.  Because we will have a good-sized group, try to make a dish that will feed about 12-15 people.  Our group prides itself on historically having more food than could be consumed by two professional football teams (or 3 hungry teenage boys :) ) and we don't want to blow our streak now. ;)  We have breakfast Saturday morning around 9-ish, and we all just gather at someone's site, drag enough tables over so that everyone has a seat and then dig in.  You need to bring your own plates, utensils, and beverages.  Dinner is Saturday evening around 5:30 to 6:00-ish and pretty much the same set-up as it was for breakfast.

There aren't many activites planned by our group, because the cg does a great job of offering many things to see and do at their Halloween festival.  However, I do have a couple of questions that need answering:

(1)  Last year, on Saturday afternoon, we had a costume contest with prizes for all the kids.  Do we want to do this again?  If so, each child that participates will need to bring a small prize to share.  We usually have a group of parents do the judging, with a "best costume" recipient in about 3 different age groups.  Regardless of who wins "best costume," every child who brings a prize gets to pick a prize from the collection.  If we want to do this, I would suggest having it earlier than we did last year, perhaps around 3 or 4 at the latest, so it doesn't make dinner so late that we're eating in the dark (like last year!)

(2)  There was also some discussion of letting the kids go around to the campers within our group and doing some trick-or-treating.  I thought this was nice last year and would enjoy doing it again this year.  I suggest doing this after Saturday's dinner.  If we are gong to do this, be sure to bring some candy or other goodie to hand out to the kids.

Finally, feel free to decorate your campers.  Last year, it was fun to walk around the cg and see some of the creative and elaborate scenes that some of the campers had staged.  A number of them really got into it!

I'm really looking forward to seeing all of my old friends again and making many new ones!

Only 17 more days!!!!:-() :! :# :sombraro:

PopUpMomma

Lori,
We can't believe how many people have signed up. WOW!  We have to re-think our "goodie" basket for the kiddos.  I guess the adults miss out this time.

When should we start checking the mail boxes for conformation?  Sometime after the 1st after you release the open campsite perhaps?

Thanks for all your hard work.  As "newbies"  we are really looking forward to the trip and meeting all of you.

Randy, Great Shirts!

No problem...I have enough for 48 kids!  I'm thinking that we'll do the craft after breakfast on Saturday.

Lori,
I vote for the Halloween parade/costume contest and prizes (I already have mine ordered!) and trick or treating around our campsites.   The proposed schedule for activities sounds great. From the looks of this we have ourselves a MEGA rally! Thanks, Ms. Wagonmaster!

I'm really looking forward to this one especially since I missed out on it last year.

Dee,
We are still planning on bringing the fire pit until further notice...

Randy,
Thanks for handling the t-shirts!  They look great.

Lori, Mistress of the Dark.  I like it.  Then, after the rally, she would have the Elvira outfit for the next time she is testifying before the state legislature.

That would shake them to their booties and we'd definitely see her on the 6 o'clock news.
