Was at the Big Lots in Milford Delaware on Saturday, Tlhdoc had one at home. When we were at Little Pines she had talked about it, especially when I was mashing potatoes in the rest room (we did not have sites with electric) with my hand mixer. It got interesting when I tried to put the bowl down to plug in the mixer and the automatic water would come on.

Well I bought one of these beauties of $6.99 at big lots to go in the camper for when I am dry camping. And thought I would pass the word.

I just bought DH a hand egg beater so that he could make a soufle for the kids at scout camp.  I thought this is a handy little thing and I should take it camping.  DH said it worked, but not as fast as an electric mixer.  The ricer sounds like a good idea....I may have to do a big lots run this week.  Thanks for the tip.

Please forgive my ignorance but what is a potatoe ricer?

Thanks

The only reason I know about a potato ricer is that my sister-in-law makes the BEST mashed potatoes in the world.  She uses a potato ricer.  It's a gizmo that forces the cooked  potatoes through a seive, so you wind up with lumpless mashed potatoes.  If I weren't in the "down-size" mode, I would stop at Big Lots and pick one up.

I like lumps in my mashed taters.

I like lumps or lumpless. As long as I get smashed taters, I'm happy. Matter of fact, lots of restaurants don't even peel 'em around here. Just mash em up with the skins on 'em.

I just like fresh mashed potatoes, with or without lumps also Larry. Give me lenty of butter and FF half and half.  I have the hand mixer for electric sites and the ricer when I do not have electric...

good mashes taters include some roasted garlic also forced through the ricer. If you want your tater to be even smoother try warming the cream before you add it to the taters. For those watching calories and fats try using chicken stock in place of the butter and milk/cream.

At first, I thought it was something to make fuel for my Nissan vehicles!

I grew up using a ricer to make "riced" potatoes.  It is the only way my DM makes mashed potatoes.  I use the stand mixer when I need to make a lot of them (holiday meals), and the ricer to make mashed potatoes for just our family.:)
