Hello,

I was wondering where I can get a nice, portable, sturdy, folding drying rack, for use to take with me in the pop up.  Since most CG's don't like clothes lines, I wanetd to find a nice drying rack.  Any suggestions would be hlepful.

Also, how does everyone organize all the clothes, etc. in their pop ups?  It gets so claustrophobic in the PU sometimes and I'm wondering if I should keep the clothes out in the Suburban?

I use one of those plastic coated wire folding racks (like the old wooden ones). I can usually get all the towels and bathing suits on it between pool trips. I also keep two laundry baskets in the back of my trailblazer, one with folded clean clothes and one for the dirty laundry or it ends up thrown all over the camper. The kids don't put clothes in drawers at home, they certainly won't do it camping.

Thank you.  I like those, but they seem to blow away at the slightest breeze.  I was hoping for something a little more substantial.

Thanks for the info on the clothes.

For a weekend ~ I usually pack us all in one big duffle bag and then have a laundry bag for dirty clothes.   For a longer trip ~ I pack all my stuff in one duffle and all the kids' stuff in one or two bags.

What works for me is to fold everything as an "outfit" (it's a girl thing  ;) )  I lay a shirt down first then put shorts, underwear and socks on it before folding.  I keep the duffles in the PU cuz I have room, but you could do this out of the back of your TV easily.  In the morning I grab one 'shirt' for each kid ~ voila!  clothes for the day.  Or until they get into something yucky!

I keep a separate tote that has all our jackets & sweatshirts in it for cold days/evenings, as well as extra shoes.  That stays in the TV.

Hi Estelle,
We bring 2 small duffle bags for pants and undergarments bathroom stuff.  We hang our shirts.  But then again, it's usually just the two of us.  When the kids come, they bring a duffle bag for their own....but they're 15 and 18 so I don't worry much about what they bring.  I have a "popup" hamper we keep in the popup for dirty clothes. We put it on the bunk when bunk is not in use. There was a thread where everyone told how they do things.  Some of the ideas were pretty neat.  Try searching it and I will try to find it also.  Having no small children, It's not a huge problem for us.  Oh, I just remembered, when my scout troop were young, I would have them pack "outfits" in Ziplock bags.  It was great for camp because the girls always knew which were clean clothes.  They were to bring another small garbage bag for dirty clothes but I doubt that it was ever used.  When my kids were young, I would pack their clothes by item...shirts, pants, socks, undergarment..etc.. I would buy the super ziplocks put all the shirts in one, pants in another..etc.  This would keep their duffle organized and dry.  They would go to scout camp for a week at a time.  I would re-use the ziplocks until they fell apart.  I think one of the ideas on the other thread was big plastic drawers.  I have a set that we pack our food in.  I bought them at Target.  Fairly resonable.  They come out of the popup and live in our garage.  Then just pack it as you go.

Estelle,
for a dryer....I bought a pants/skirt hanger with "clips".  It has 4 "rungs" on it and swings out so you can put more than one item on it.  We camp at the beach so I needed something study.  We hung heavy towels and bathing suits from it and hung it from our awning.  Actually at the beach, I think we hung it from our stand-alone awning.  But we use it everytime we go camping for our towels ect. after our shower.  It works great and cheap.

We use a regular wooden drying rack and bungee cord it to the bunk end.  This keeps it very secure, I use clothes pins to secure the items to the rack.  As for the clothing in the trailer, i have purchased a four drawer plastic container and each member of the family has a drawer.  We keep the smaller items in the drawers and the larger things stay in duffels stored on the bunk ends.  I use a folding laundry basket for the dirty stuff.

We are the "rubbermaid people"...depending on the length of the trip, each member of the family has a container, small or large, and any clothes they want to take goes in their labeled box.  Except we have one for shoes (they track dirt and can smell...) We also have one for big coats or jackets. We even have one for our shaving   oilet bags.  It works for us.  Unlike most folks, we found keeping clothes in our Utah to be a hassle.  Other stuff fill the drawers and storage area in "Hermes" our P/U.

Each of us has our own duffle, with DH and I sharing the biggest one.  The duffles have side pockets that we use for underclothes, socks and things like deoderant and hair clips.  We keep it in the back of our Suburban and either go out in the morning in our PJs for our day's clothes or we get them the night before.

I have a pop-up hamper for dirty clothes.  Your trailer is the same year as mine, so if you have the front storage with the sliding door inside to access it, you can lay down the hamper in there and just open the door to shove clothes in.  I also have put the hamper under the bunk-ends outside.  I found that trash bags for dirty clothes get torn and are hard to lug into the house.  The pop-up hampers are inexpensive and are especially useful when we've been on vacation where I may have to go to a laundromat.  The clothes get folded when clean and placed back into the hamper to take back to the CG.

As for a drying rack, I've had the same problem with wet towels.  I recently purchased a drying rack that's simply an "X" shape when open but folds down to 2" for storage at home to dry my stuff I hang to dry (DH and DS were tired of having to duck under doorways with clothes hanging down) and I'm going to take that camping and try it.  I can probably only hang two towels though, so the old fashioned multi-racked ones would be better.  We tend to put our towels over our lawn chairs overnight or over the seats of the Suburban to dry for the next night's use.

Thank you everyone for your replies.  Trina:  Where can you buy a pop-up hamper?  I've tried to go to Pop Up Gizmos, but I couldn't seem to find a variety of gizmo's.  Maybe I couldn't maneuver around the site very well.:(

I am also looking for a folding trash can.  They fold down to look almost like a hula hoop.  Any ideas where to find those?

Thanks,

Estelle

OC Campers

We bought our collapsable trash can at Target.  It is actually a lawn and leaf bag holder. Look for it in the garden area.  I think I paid about $10 for it.  As far as the laundry hamper, you can buy them anywhere.  I have seen them at Home Depot/Lowes, Linens and Things and even at Walmart.  We use a large laundry bag that I bought at a craft show.  They would also be easy to make if you sew (which I do not).  Just buy some heavy fabric like denim and a few feet of thick cord or rope and sew into a bag.  We keep it outside under the bunkend.  With 3 kids and a fisherman husband the laundry smells TERRIBLE!!

found a drying rack at Tearget$20..the legs come off and it expands side to side. my hybrid has a wardrobe closet & drwaers but in my Niagara I had a hanging bar I bought one of those hanging selves made from plastic and put the close in there  http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_4/601-2857163-3589745?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B0007OBFEY

You can put some small screws with round eyes into the bottom of the bunkends.  Make sure they don't go through the wood and into the mattress or hang down to low and catch when you push the bunk in.  Then run close line or bungy cord through the eyes and you have a clothesline under the bunkend and out of the rain.:)

We often hook towels and bathing suits to the awning edges and the rafter poles.  You run a clothes line from the PU to the picnic table.:)

WOW!!  Ask and you shall receive.  Thanks everyone.  I've learned SO much!

I've already started writing ideas down.  I'll be so organized when I get to Pismo!!!;)

Since Jacqui replied with what I'd reply, I won't repeat it.  But you can find them all over the place, especially Wal-Mart or Target.  The hamper is a square shape with handles on top and it folds down to nothing.  The trash can is the round hula hoop thing.

One warning -- when you go to Pismo, you'll see all kinds of gadgets and gizmos that other's have and you'll just have to get whatever they have.  That's how I've acquired many things.  Do not -- I repeat do not -- go by Griffsmom's site!  She's the queen of gadgets!  You'll be awed and amazed and overloaded if you try to duplicate her set up!  :p
