anyone camped near Disneyland or in Las Vegas?

Hi, we just found out my husband has to take approximately 3 weeks off work before the end of the year or he loses the vacation time. We have talked about Disneyland, and since we now have a pop up, is that a ridiculous thought to go there in the p/u?

Do campgrounds have bathrooms with showers? We don't have a shower in ours. I would buy a potty.

Also, does anyone know of a campground that you can stay in and go to Disneyland? What if we drive to san diego for the day, can you store your p/u at the campground? I guess these are questions about campgrounds in general also.

For that matter, what about Las Vegas instead? any suggestions?

Thanks!

Don't know about Vegas, other than the Circus Circus RV Park(ing Lot).  If you want to camp near Disneyland here are some options:

Traveler's World RV Park

C.C. Camperland

Orangeland RV Park

However, your absolute best bet is a short drive away, at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort

OC Campers

I would suggest Canyon RV Park www.canyonrvpark.com in Anaheim Hills. It is about a 20 minute drive to Disney depending on traffic. I don't think any of the RV parks near Disney are anything but an asphalt parking lot. Canyon at least has grass, trees and a play area for the kids. I don't know about storing the popup. San Diego is a good distance from Orange County. It would take apprx 1 1/2 hours to get there with no traffic. I would suggest maybe getting a campsite in San Diego and spending time there. You could easily spend 3 days there. Newport Dunes is a nice place but it runs 80-100 dollars a night.

Disneyland is fun but try to avoid peak vacation times. It gets REALLY crowded.

You mean there's no Fort Wilderness available at Disneyland?  I would have thought the original Anaheim park would have the same lodging choices available as in the Orlando complex.  Then again, Orlando now has 4 parks.  I don't think Anaheim has seen that kind of development.  We've never been to the Anaheim park.  I would imagine it must be pretty land locked if Disney hasn't been able to develop further than just the park itself.

We were going to stay at Anaheim Resort Rv Park but opted for a hotel instead since we live fairly close.  It looks nice and is only 1 mile away with free shuttle to Disneyland. It is also has a heated pool and full hookups with cable tv. Check their website to see if they have showers. Their website is anaheimresortrvpark.com  Another great website to get info on special promotions, park conditions, and general info. for Disneland is mouseplanet.com   - just make sure your under Disneyland and not Disneyworld since they have info on both.

Las Vegas- Circus Circus has their own Rv park. (approx. $45.00 per nite.) I would be surprised if they have any showers. We are getting ready to go their in 3 weeks with our 9 year old and will have to check it out. I picture a cement parking lot with hookups.

Hope you have a great time wherever you decide!!

We've stayed at Sam's Town RV Park and found it was nothing fancy, but nice. Clean restrooms and showers and inexpensive to stay there. Food was good also. It'll be cool the in December.

The ENTIRE Original Disneyland and the new California Adventure parks would fit inside the Orlando DisneyWorld parking lot.  The scale of the "Magic Kingdom", the original theme park, is smaller compared to Orlando.  The distance between attractions is closer.  Main Steet is shorter and narrower.  Even Cinderella's castle is smaller.

But it still has all the original Disney "magic"!

Personally I wouldn't suggest staying at any of the RV parks in the urban areas around Disneyland.

If you want a more rustic setting- IE not right next to a freeway- I suggest Caspers regional park near San Juan Capistrano.  There's a carpool lane that runs directly to Disneyland so the drive isn't bad- maybe 45 minutes.

Last time I was there the price was $12/night.  It's first come, first served and you shouldn't have trouble finding a spot this time of year.  Good restrooms with hot showers.  No hookups.

It is a good location to visit Mission San Juan Capistrano, hiking in the Cleveland National Forest, and beaches.  Since it's south of the Orange County urban areas, the drive to San Diego- the Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, etc., is only about an hour.

Another option is Doheny or San Clemente State beach- but you probably wouldn't find a site open for the weekends.  San Mateo Campground at San Onofre State Beach is less popular because it's a mile from the ocean but is a nicer campground- they have some hookups too.

Two years ago we went to Disneyland over Christmas. We took OC Campers advice and stayed at RV Canyon park, and would highly recommend it. Only 20 minutes drive to Disneyland, and plenty of open grass. Sites were nice and open, and the restrooms were clean and had showers. There were a few permanent campers there, but not many and we felt very secure there.
Anything closer to Disneyland is only an RV park, and they cram everyone in like sardines. You will have difficulty opening the slide out, and don't even try to open the awning, as you will be touching your neighbors rig. We have talked to people who stayed there, and found it noisy at night, and they never felt comfortable, with nowhere for the kids to go outside and play.
On Christmas eve we drove to a hotel, and parked the trailer in their parking lot, and stayed in the hotel for three days over Christmas. It was a nice treat for the kids.

Hi, I live here in Vegas, there are alot of RV Parks here, but most of them dont allow tents or PU's. Some of them have showers, and bathrooms. Unfortunatly there only for the big RV's, i think its a safty and theft issue. You can however find some nice places to camp along Lake Mead A couple of them have full hook-ups, like at Boulder Beach " //www.LakeMeadRVVillage.com ". its a nice place with bathrooms and showers. My wife and I like going to Pahrump NV, to Terrible's Lakeside Casino and RV Park. Its our get away from Vegas for an over nighter or 2, and its only 1 3/4 hrs. from home. They have all the ammenitys and a small lake with fishing, a nice park for the kids, a pool, and a nice beach. They keep the grounds very nice and clean. Rates are $22.00 sun thru thurs.  $26.00 fri and sat.
or weekly $112.00 or weekly Lakeside $132.00. Pahrump is'nt a big town so it makes it a nice get away. " //www.terribleherbst.com ". I hope this helps you...................Grizzly or Ed

How is the noise at Canyon RV?  I just figured it would be loud right next to the 91 freeway.

Anything in a town is going to be noisy in a PUP.  For full hook-ups, there's Puddingstone in San Dimas.  There's also a KOA in Pomona, next to the L.A. Co. Fairgrounds.  That might be a bit noisy, but if you ask for a site away from the main street it might be okay.  Both of these would be an hour or less from Disneyland.  Don't know costs, but I'm sure they have websites.  You might try a combo of hook-up parks & non hook-ups (i.e., State parks along the beach), if you want a varied experience.  There are all sorts of great places between Los Angeles and San Diego that would be fine (although a bit cold at night) this time of year.  If you're an AAA member, get one of their campground books.  It'll be a big help.

I stayed at Newport Dunes last summer for a week. It is the best of all the CGs mentioned. Newport Dunes is expensive, if you are going to stay there ask for a lot in the back or against the fence. These sites are close to the pool and bathrooms and not to expensive, 50-60 night. It is near to Disney and almost any other place you would like to goto in the LA area. Newport Dunes is a CG for the rich, I saw motor homes there with mercedes and porsches as tow vehicles.

The CG has a beach, habor, pool and a host of other amineties(sp?). I would recommend it to any one.

Newport Dunes is listed as one of the top 10 rv parks in the world by The Travel Channel. There are sites that have a private hot tub and outdoor kitchen, at about 250 a night.

You can email me if have any questions.

As joe said, it is for the rich & famous, BUT it's near a major road (Pacific Coast Hwy), and as a result can be noisy.  Unless you don't have issues with nighttime noise, I'd steer clear of it.  That being said, almost any campground along the coast between San Diego & Santa Barbara will have the trains to contend with, and they run all night.  It really depends on what your needs are for camping.  So, you'll have to prioritize and then choose.  Good luck!  Let us know where you end up -- if anywhere.

Just like we experiment with our first child and finally get it right on the following kids, Walt experimented with Disneyland.  Unfortunately, he didn't anticipate the value his little park would add to the area and all the surrounding land was bought up for hotels, restaurants, etc. for others to make a buck off his park's patrons.  When he opened the park in FL, he had the benefit of hindsight and bought all the surrounding land.

My vote, after reading all the posts up to now, is Newport Dunes.  The parks that are very close to Disneyland are going to have road noise, but you could walk to the park if you wanted to.  Newport Dunes has stuff to do if you wanted to take a few days downtime.  I'd suggest you spend a few days at Disneyland and take in the park and California Adventure (buy the flex passs -- you can't do it all in one day), and maybe visit Knott's Berry Farm, which is about 10 minutes away from Disneyland.  Then pack it up after a week or so and head down to San Diego and enjoy Sea World and the world famous San Diego Zoo.  Take the kids over to Coronado Island to check out the historic hotel, buy some salt water taffy and check out their awesome tidepools.

If you arrive before December, you could also visit some other nice places in and around San Diego, such as Julian (William Heise Park) or Valley Center (Woods Valley Kampground), which is near the San Diego Wild Animal Park.  There's also a park that's only open in the off season called Agua Caliente, which has natural fed hot spring pools.  For Heise and Agua Caliente, you can check the County of San Diego Parks website.  Prices are cheap.

As far as leaving your trailer, I'd just plan to pay for a spot at a camping park while you leave in your tow vehicle.  You wouldn't want to leave your trailer unhitched somewhere for someone else to hook up to and take off with, but it's pretty safe to leave it set up at a campground while you do your daytripping.  We do it all the time.

Whatever you decide, have a great time!
