I'm thinking somewhere South of the equator.  Or...how far of a drive is Guatamala?

I'd sure like to get people interested in a camping trip down to Baja :D . Rosarito Beach or something.

TheViking

That would have to be a little more than a weekend trip I think.

Rosarito is about 30 miles south of the boarder. That would be 230 miles each way from Lancaster (down I-15).

It's about 180 miles for me and about 130 miles for the folks in Orange County.

I guess it just depends on how far people are willing to drive in one day.

I would certainly want to make a 3-day weekend out of it, myself.

Ahhh!  Now you're talking!  A few fresh lobsters, fish tacos, shrimp and abolone cocktail, some frosty Bohemia's, (Corona's, Dos XX, Tecate, Margaritas, or tequila shots can be easily substituted or included)!  The sand, the beaches, (the jellyfish)!

Almost every time we stay at Campland on the Bay, or the Chula Vista KOA, we take a drive down for lunch.  I have not built up the nerve to tow my PU across the border.   A whole simultaneous convoy of PU folk would ease any aprehension.

Have you done it?  Where?  Insurance?  Any problems?

We had a great time meeting new friends and seeing old friends. I agree it was very chilly, but thank goodness for propane furnaces. Since I love trains, I had no problem with them going by. We were up on the hill closer to the trains, but slept well. I'm sure glad I had our Costco shade canopy with side walls. That's where we cooked and had all our "toys."

I am so proud of our son Will doing his 2 Dutch oven meals. They were very yummy. I'll post them so everyone can enjoy them. I was a little frustrated with my frozen water and drain hoses on Monday. Finally got home around 5 PM. Had a call from Will that they ran into snow flurry's in the Techapi's.

Ready to go camping as soon as I get my propane tanks filled.

I used to live in San Diego ('98-'99) on my yacht. I made several trips down to Rosarito and really like it there.

I have never camped there and wouldn't feel comfortable camping down there  alone, in a PU. As you stated, having 4, 5 or 20 campers in a group may well ward off any threats of vandalism.

I would certainly recommend Mexican Insurance. If there is enough interest in a trip like this, I will look into the cost of insurance. The roads down there are quite modern and safe. However, if something happens (God forbid) you must have Mexican insurance. The Mexicans just simply don't recognize US insurance because it is too much hassle to collect and they have no recourse, once you go back to the US. You could find yourself in a Mexican jail for a simple accident if you don't have insurance that they recognize.

Hello my fellow campers!
What a great group of campers! We have finally thawed out! Yes Brian, I have a hard time accepting things from others. I will work on that, especialy when it was so cold! I did accept Dan's portable heater which helped and the heated mattress pads did not work so great this time around probably because they were too cold to warm up! One thing was for sure our little dog got into the sleeping bags, between me & Trina to get warm and did not come out till the morning. Brian and Kristi did exceptional hosting and had us visit their beautiful home, for lunch, on our way home, Monday.
Yes, it was too brief for all the campers who left as we arrived. Look forward to another time when we will have time! Grizzly Taco (Ed) and family were so kind and friendly. Another great family joins our group.
Here is a trivia question from this weekend that not every one will know. Where did Chloe's food jug end up after the racoon's carted it away, during the night? All in all, we still had a great time! Great campfire, Brian! No wind to speak of and the campground delivered more firewood to the site! What service!
Lastly, our family finally met Oldmoose and Paula and family. Very happy to put a face with names! I guess we missed a great dutch oven cobbler from the day before because the ones who stayed on, could not stop talking about it.
So Brian, when it heats up to anything above 60 degrees, call us! Look for a PM about Quail Valley later today.

I say Temecula again!  Not too high, not too windy, lots to do for the kids, close enough for everyone, and good pizza in town!

Or what about Cachuma?  Could be pretty nippy this time of year, but don't they have hook-ups there?

Malibu?  Too pricey?

I wanna go somewhere in March!
