I've read posts of opinions on several boards about the toilets/tanks on the new niagras. Some of them border on passionate. Since I am about to purchase a Niagra, I thought I'd get some last minute input. I've owned a PU with a portable potti, and a TT with the full bathroom. The DW and I usually camp by ourselves on a full hook up site. To me it seems more convenient to run the discharge hose into the receptacle and be done with it, rather than pulling out a casette and trying to pour it out without splashing. Whadaya think?

Think of it this way with a full hook up site like you said you like to be at.  The potty tank pull out from the outside like our Niagara.  You don't have to carry it very far to empty it.  Or wait in line behind other campers to empty it.  We have a 2005 Niagara be glad to share our experiences with you.

If you camp only at full hook-up sites the holding tank set-up would be perfect for you. However, on the odd occasion when you may dry-camp or at least not have sewer to the campsite, you will have to be careful with your usage. You wouldn't want to be in the situation where you have to tear down camp to go dump the holding tank.

On the other hand, you could get one of those holding tanks on wheels for those odd occasions. You can even get them that hook up to your trailer hitch, so you can tow it to the dump station.

We find our 5 Gallon porta-potty holding tank to be quite sufficient when there is just the 2 of us for a 3-day weekend. The grandkids put quite a strain on it though.

I use a 1 gallon pee jug, myself. I just put a small amount of chemicals in it. Same thing as a porta-potty for men :D . I just walk to the restrooms and poor it out each morning. That extends the life of the porta-potty a lot.

Ok, Please tell me I'm not the only one here that thinks that is WAY to much information!!!  The visual alone is gonna haunt me for years!!!

I do have the wheeld tank which I had the occasion to use once with the TT...Just hooked it to my bumber and hauled it to the dump station...no poblems.

I agree TMI...one of my favorite things about my hybid is not having to pull out the cassette and empty it...

I can post a picture, if that will help :D .

You've really gotta get a handle on your bathroom fetish :p ..

I'll bet that you would rather die than walk into the ladies room to take care of business  :yikes:  when the mens room is out of order. :p

It must be sheer terror when you go into a public restroom that has no doors on the stalls :yikes:  :yikes:

Be careful, if we ever camp in the same campsite. I am a pro at setting up hidden wireless cameras :D

I was looking at the Niagara.  My issue with the black water tank is I think the majority of my camping will be in state parks without full hook ups.  I've also got 2 kids and they will bring friends, at least occasionally.  Just not convenient for my purposes.

However, your uses and needs are different than mine.  The black water tank may be perfect for your use.  I definately like the Niagara.  I love not having to fold down anything.  It's a big box.  It's a good looking pop up.  It just doesn't fill my needs.

Looks like the PU with the holding tank is the way to go for you. I have often thought of installing a holding tank on mine.

Although, I do enjoy that walk to the public restroom with my 1 gallon jug :D (pictures to follow) :p .

How's this for an idea? Install a fixed toilet in the PU but instead of a permanently mounted holding tank, run a discharge hose from a fitting on the PU to a holding tank on wheels.

ORRRRRR, Mount the holding tank on wheels in a way that it can be released from the PU to take to the dump station, then bring it back and remount it. That would take the extra storage burden out of the picture. HMMMMMMMMMMMM!! Got me thinking now..... :D

Why not just run yourself a sewer hose right to your bed, then you wouldn't even have to get up.

Not a bad idea :p

When you get to be my age, getting out of bed gets harder every day :( .

Seriously though, doesn't the removable holding tank with wheels sound like a good solution?

I just went down and did the measurements on my PU. It would work great. I could even plumb it so that it could either be dumped in place (like a TT), or disconnected, capped and taken to the dump station by hand or in tow, behind the TV.

I don't mind dumping the porta-potty that much but it is a tad messy sometimes.

I think this sounds like a good idea.  You could have a single lever that seals the openings, then you crank it down like the roof.  Pull it out and dump it.  Then repeat when it's empty.  Maybe you need to design and patent this.

Might be a bit complicated, but not terribly.

Unless it is a straight shot from the toilet to the tank, I would expect that the toilet paper and solid waste would clog/get stuck in the hose.  On a RV the black water tank is under the toilet and the solids break down from the chemicals used in the tanks.  The back water tank is drained and then the lines are rinsed with the water from the grey water tank.  Unless you plan on using a lot of water I think there will be many clogs.:)

If you push the air vent button the black water doesn't splash when dumping the cassette.

As long as you know that the black water tank is only 9 gallons, then it sounds like the 2006 Niagara is the PU for you.  We usually camp at state and national parks without hookups, so the small onboard black water tank would not be my preference.
