Quote from: TheVikingThat's what I get for asking a question with an Attorney on board, a dissertation. LOL Thanks Lori, It's kind of like the town Wynn and I are from...South Bend. It's in the Nothern part of Indiana. Go figure. But as I understand it, the name came from the fact that the town is located on the Southern Bend of the St. Joe River. Or something like that.
I'd still like to know why you Drive on a Parkway, and Park on a Driveway.....:eyecrazy:
Actually, this doens't have to do with me being an attorney, but rather, with my former life.  When I lived in San Clemente, my ex-husband was a nuclear engineer at SCE's San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and almost all of my friends worked at the power plant.  I went to more than my fair share of SCE big-wig management and awards dinners and was on the SCE ski club. They used to show SCE history and culture movies at the beginning of the dinners while all the big-wigs were slapping each other on the back; the wannabes were kissing the big-wigs' patooties; and everyone was getting sloshed.  I didn't have to do any of that and so was happy to sit at the table and actually watch their self-aggrandizing movies.  You can't help but soak up SCE info when you're that surrounded by all-things-SCE.

I found this quote on the reservation page for the website.
Note what I underlined. Separate reservations in the same envelope is what I get.

"If you wish to make reservations for more than 1 site (such as a group), please submit all requests in one envelope or in the same fax. Multiple reservations in one name (for the same dates) will not be processed and will be returned to you."

Well...we have a generator now, BUT I don't love to dry camp.  If were just a few days, we'd probably still be willing.

boncrab

We are able to dry camp, and it would be ok, I suppose.  The sites do look nice and to be a decent size.

We have one allergic to smoke so sitting in smoke the entire week would not sit well with us..

One Option....
Bring huge fans to blow away the smoke..........

I'll call the CG tomorrow & ask if other sites have water & electric but no sewer.  The sites that are designated for groups have W&E, so my thinking is that maybe we can get one of them & just "gang up" if necessary.

We don't necessarily need full hookups (we can use the tanks), but I'd much rather have electricity and hopefully water.  Since we don't have a generator, our battery won't last more than maybe 3 days.  If there is water, I could accept dumping to a portable container and lugging that to a dumpsite.

Dee4j

the more I keep reading the more complicated it seems...I think we'll sit this one out.

The paved and preferred sites have water and electric.  The only thing they don't have is sewer.

Which loops are those Jacqui?  It's not clear from the camp site details list.

Awwww ... c'mon Dee!  It's too early to quit!  You know us, we've got to check out every nook & cranny to make sure it's just right.  If it were closer I'm sure someone would volunteer to go scope out everything & come back with lots of pictures.  Remember what you & Lori did before last year's Temecula trip?  We've got a whole year before we go anywhere, and 6 months before we have to commit to anything.  Heck, this just gives us something to do in between summer camping trips!  :D

Okay, the lady at the CG said that any site that has water & electric also has cable.  There IS a honey wagon that will come if you request it when you check in.  When I mentioned the smoke "thing" in the Manzanita Loop, she said that that was the first anyone had mentioned it, although she agreed that smoke settles & the loop is in a bit of a "dip".

For those of us who are thinking of doing this, a la Yosemite Lakes, a $50 deposit is all that's necessary (less than 7 days).  And she was adamant that we get in our request BEFORE the first working day in February.  So, we have lots of time to chew on this.

I'm still confused

Do all sites have at least water and electric? And if not all, then which ones? Those are the only two hook-ups about which I really care. Not having cable doesn't bother me in the least, although I know my DH will have an adamant and diametrically opposed viewpoint on this one.

Edited to add: PS Griffin's last day of school is 6/21/07, so I'd be up for anytime after that. Are we thinking of having this rally the last week of June or possibly the first or second week of July? (Is it the second week of July that would allow Zamboni to go?) July 4th is on a Wednesday next year, fwiw. What about TH, 7/12 thru M, 7/16?

Azusateach

Okay, I called, got a recording, and it says that there are 40-something sites that have full hookups.  The other 200-something have "electricity and water nearby" -- along with cable at every site.  Called again & finally got the nice lady, who said that water "nearby" means that it's every 3 sites, so a LONG hose would be in order (which seems to be what they do, because she didn't scold when I said we could just bring long hoses).  I wouldn't have a problem with that, since I've got a 20 gal. fresh water tank & wouldn't mind filling up a couple of times.

I get out before the 21 (can't remember the date), but would be open to waiting until mid-July if Zamboni wants to go, too.

OC Campers

They do have some tent sites with water not directly on the site but most sites have w/e on the site.

My vote would be the end of June.  This cg really books up fast and priority reservations are taken for people who book a week at a time or more.  The people who want less that a week send in reserves in January and get whats left.  My feeling is July will book up fast.  I think we would have a better chance of getting sites in June.  But we are willing to go anytime.  If I remember right, when we sent in our reservation, we put down several dates to choose from.  Whe the cg gets the reservationm they call and let you know what is available.
I don't know if they would give us priority because of the number of sites we would need or maybe it would be easier to book a group site.  I just don't know if the group sites are large enough for our group.

Dee don't throw in the towel.  Yes, the reservation system leaves a little bit to be desired, but I guarantee the trip is worth the trouble.  There is a reason it is hard getting reservations.  Because they get away with it.  This is truly a beautiful campground in a beautiful setting with tons of things to do.

My vote is for the last weekend in June as well.  Bryan is in school all of July so a long weekend is out for us.

However, we are only 3 hours away so if we had to, we could leave after school on Friday and stay through Sunday, albeit that would be my last choice, not first.
